I like the spin mop. I can get it just barely damp for hardwood or really wet if there is a mess in the kitchen. The mophead goes into the washing machine.

By the way, I'm not a Swiffer fan, although I have one and sometimes use the dry cloths and the wet cloths. I need something more substantial.

For hard floors I use a spin mop combination with divided soap and rinse compartments, plus a spinner so I can choose wet or damp mop.

IMO Swiffer type mops push and pull dirt and leave a dirty residue. When using a spin mop with long microfibers, you'll see the dirt in the rinse bucket.

I always dust mop first, then wet mop.

I use a small work towel attached to the end of some flat mop handle that used to have microfiber cloths. I buy the towels in bulk from Costco. I keep clean, wet, but wrung out, towels in one mop bucket and put the dirty towels in another bucket as I go. It's a fast way to mop the floor without a lot of rinsing and wringing. At the end, I can put the whole load in the washer, then dryer.

I've wrestled with the thought of a spin mop because I thought that they were just clean water that became dirty and that you keep rinsing the dirty mop in the dirty water and continue to use it. But it sounds like the receptacles are separate. Good! Is there a favorite brand? Amazon link, perhaps?

My floors are wood so I don't think that a steamer is appropriate. Am I wrong about that?

I've been using the Bissell steam mop, I also have a spin mop. I don't like the swiffer so the old fashion squeeze mop is about the best for me.

I like a microfiber mop with a removable/washable pad. Dan Aslett is one brand. Qvc offers that one, and by the way, I think they have free shipping today. But there are other brands of that style mop.

Suzieque, I have been looking for a new mop type also. I had been looking at a steamer, but they all keep saying that the type of wood floor I have cannot use them. Mine are from 1965 and do not have a poly finish. The steamers say you have to have a SEALED wood floor.

I think I will try the towels like Fun2behere mentioned. I have an old Rubbermaid mop with the velcro pads.

A steam machine is S..L..O..W. I can sling our mop in a figure 8, 6 feet on each side in seconds.

I don't have a mop. I get down on my knees and clean the floor with a bucket and cloths.

I've tried many different kinds over the years, and this time I agree with Elmer - whatever mop someone else is using is my favorite!

None work as well as getting down on one's hands and knees and that ain't going to happen at my age!!!

I use a Shark steamer. Vacuum the floor, then spray with a cleaner and steam. The nice part about a steamer is the floor is dry and can be walked on instantly.

I recommend the sh-mop. No bucket required. Put water and soap in the sink. Wring terry cloth and put on mop. Remove terry cloth as it gets dirty and rerinse in the sink.

I use this one and like it. Wide and swivels. I have 3 pads that I just throw in the washer. Best thing is I can use my own solution in the refillable bottle.

The difference in the wood floors is the final finish. Mine are solid oak and have the type that you would wax with a paste wax and buff. You are not to use a steamer on those. If you spill water on the floor it soaks into the floor boards.

Both sons have wood floors and they have a hard finish that is shiny. If you spill water, it just sits there until you wipe it up. I think that this is the type of wood floor you can use a steam mop on.

It seems that most of the new flooring you buy now has the hard finish. The original wood flooring did not. One son had original wood floors refinished in a previous house and they put the hard satin finish poly on them. I believe that you could use the steamer on them.

I have mostly hardwoods and fairly recently bought a Norwex mop system. There are two microfiber pads, one you use dry to sweep up debris and another that can be used damp to mop. Throw in the wash or just rinse. My housekeepers love it. I did try it out before turning it over to them and it is really a nice system.

Norwex mop hands down!!!

Suzique, the dry pad is a bit like a Swiffer, but much larger surface and thicker so I feel like i’m getting more bang for the buck. And the one you dampen is also similar I suppose to one of the Swiffer wet jets, which I have never used. But IMO it is a much better and more substantial pad all around, and thick, so you can feel and notice the difference in cleaning. I occasionally use my Swiffer for a quick swipe under beds and other furniture.

I mopped today with the new mop I posted above. It’s exactly what I was looking for. Sturdy and the head has enough texture with clean up any debri stuck to the tile. The best wringing I’ve ever seen. The floor dried as quickly as a steamer. I liked the steam mops ive had over the years, but when one finally breaks and I’m back to a mop and bucket the floor looks cleaner. A mop gets into the nooks and crannies and the grout better. No more steam mops.
