The most pot-bound plant I've ever seen.
Comments (13)Maybe the curl is wilt? LOL! J/K. I don't know why I keep this plant around, habit and sentimentality, it's been through most of my life with me. Just because it's indestructible doesn't mean it isn't fussy if one wants a good-looking one ALL of the time, yet in a too-small pot. I guess it's just like one of those bad kids a mother loves anyway, overlooking the bad behavior and unkempt appearance. Why don't I just stop trying to cram it into the same little hanging basket? Also forgot to mention that the number of individuals in a pot would affect how quickly the pot fills with roots. There's 5-7 in that trimmed clump in my hand. That's a lot for such a small pot and I know that. A single plant in the same pot would "last longer" but I like the appearance with a ton of leaves and many babies, even if it causes the plant to decline more quickly and repotting to come more often. If it was in some dark stuffy corner, it wouldn't grow as fast, there's that too. There's a whole gray area between just up-potting undisturbed roots and the drastic pruning from my pic. One could choose to trim less overall, or just remove the biggest "carrots." Or separate individual plants and just trim the roots of one. Braid them. (Just seeing if anyone read this far.)...See MoreWhy do you grow hostas in pot? Here's why I do
Comments (11)I grow mine in pots as a temporary means until I am both satisfied with where I want them to live in the garden and also the soil where they will be planted is decent enough to not stall any progress they might be making. It sort of gives me a flexible buffer so I donâÂÂt feel pressured or rushed to get them in the ground. I also pot them up to allow me the opportunity to âÂÂbabyâ them, if need be. There is a down side to that though. Sometimes I fuss too much and I know if I just left them alone they would be fine. But, I am still so new to hostas that I feel like I would be a bad parent, throwing them straight out into the wild unknown that I call my front yard. I want to tame the jungle before I let the kids out to play. That sounds corny, but you get the point. :p I think the biggest perk though is when they are in pots I can take the whole plant and plunk it in the garden where I think I might like to place it permanently. Once I have a plant anchored I will then plan around it, and slowly the garden grows. I have tried to sit down and map out an entire bed, but I always end up more frustrated than satisfied. I need to SEE them and the other plants around it to know if itâÂÂs a good fit. Plus, I can leave them in the spot in the garden while still in the pot to test out sunlight and wind. If they end up blanching or breaking I know it might not be the best place for permanency. Ludi...See MoreWhat's your most used cookware? And why?
Comments (5)Don't want to sound like a wiseguy, but my most used is---everything. I don't keep stuff that doesn't get used often, because I have no storage room to spare. Probably the cast ironware gets a slight nod, though, followed by the stainless skillets and pots. Then the bakeware. The wok is an exception. It doesn't get used as often as it should. But nothing cooks like a wok, and when you need one nothing really subs. So it sits there, taking up more space than I can spare. I don't use non-stick cookware (other than the cured cast-iron) and there's none of it in the house. Other than a microwave I don't own any of the appliences you mention. I keep trying to talk myself into a bamboo steamer, but I know I won't use it enough to justify the space it would take up....See MoreYellow leaves, black edges, black spots: why?
Comments (2)I sure wish someone would answer this because I have the exact same problem. Had it last year and it affected all my plants and I'm seeing it again this year already....See Moreplantkiller_il_5
