Thinking about selling my house,How do you let go of your garden?
Comments (20)I don't think I could do it, move that is. Not after 25 years of turning a nothing yard into flowers and beautiful shrubs. what I would suggest is collecting seeds from all of your annuals that you possibly can. Take cuttings of all perennials that you can and start rooting them now. If you wait any longer to start rooting them or taking root divisions, it will be too late to try and plant them in your new home. Maybe you should wait till next year and start the plans to sell in the spring. That way you will have all your annual seeds and divisions and root cuttings to start in your new home. Of course, you could do what a neighbor of mine just did. She'd lived in her home for over 40 years and moved into an in-law apartment with her son. This elderly woman dug up just about all of her perennials and annuals then end of july and moved them with her to her new home. She had to have had at least 200 plants with her. She did ask the new owners what, if any, plans they had for her gardens. They where kind enough to tell her they where going to demolish 5 of her garden beds to add on to the house and throw out all of the plants.!!!!! That's all she needed to hear, she started digging 3 weeks before they closed on the house. Yes she gave quite a few seeds and plants. No way where they going into the garbage heap....See MoreWhen your house was being built did you go to the site everyday?
Comments (17)As evidenced by my other threads, I'm at the site almost every day, as I only live two miles away and pass it going to/from shopping etc. It's a spec town home being built in the builder's development, and they have a great policy of letting you visit as often as you wish, as long as you suit up in a hard hat. Now I also have to pick up a key since it's done enough to be locked down when workers aren't there. I've taken full advantage of this policy and have videotape and photos of everything behind the walls and even of the shared wall with the next door unit, as well as detailed photos from every stage of the build. I've also caught a couple of incorrect things early, like an incorrectly placed hose bib, so they were able to be corrected before it became a lot of time and trouble later. Because I don't own the home yet, I can't really tell the workers what to do. I say "hello" and chat with them about their work if they bring it up themselves, but mostly I try to stay out of their way. Still, it's handy to be there sometimes, like when the electrician was putting in the hot tub box, as he had a question that it was easiest to ask us (we paid for that added work, so I felt comfortable talking to him about the specs). Even though I have some minor bones of contention with the builder at the moment, overall the policy of letting me have unlimited access to the construction site has given me a lot more confidence. I marvel at people who don't get a good look before the final walk-through, as that's much too rushed and stressful of a time to get a good look at everything. I plan to go through by myself a few days before that so I can test and scrutinize things at my leisure. That way, I'll know exactly where to focus on that final day....See MoreWhat colors is the Exterior of your house?
Comments (17)When we moved here the house was painted wood siding and the whole house was white. We put vinyl siding on and it is a pale yellow with bright white trim. When we put on a new roof 4 years ago it was a darker brown, but was never happy with the color. Thanks to a hail storm this summer we put on a new roof and it is multi colored lighter brown and looks a lot better than before. Funny thing is our old house was the same color, when we were deciding the colors for here we went with the same colors because we liked them so much. Stacie...See MoreWhat color would you paint the exterior of this house?
Comments (6)Is it stucco? I've been looking at possible stucco and stone combinations, too. I like the warm stone since it's a bit lighter, but does that go with the balanced beige? I can't tell on two different screens, but it looks like the warm stone would go with a cream trim better. If you are set on balanced beige I would hold up possible body colors next to it and the stone. The virtual taupe is too dark for my taste and I would be nervous about it fading in the sun. But, if that's not an issue where you live and you have seen dark stuccos you like that might be a better fit for you....See MoreCarla Kemp
