Last minute floor tile decision ... Please help!
Comments (3)I'd go with a different tile. Do be careful with that Marazzi. We don't really know anything about your bathroom, the dimensions, etc, the colors, the style. So it's tough to advise. I do like to shift gears with size and pattern between walls and floor, especially when using square tiles. Generically, if you're doing a simple stacked pattern of 6-by-6's in the shower, consider a larger tile (12's to 16's) on the floor in a diamond pattern. If the 6's are going in the shower in a diamond pattern, then consider a linear stacked pattern on the floor. Or you can match. Running bond on the walls, and a running bond on the floors. If your floor is not dimensionally equal, then avoid a diamond pattern on the floor, it accentuates out-of-square walls. Best, Mongo...See MoreCountertop decisions (and other last-minute anxieties)
Comments (5)Maggiepie & NYC - Thank you both for the input on the overhang and 'liveability'. I think I will stick to my guns on the 15" - I am 6'1" with a 34" inseam - and DH is 6'3" with a 28" inseam! I will probably appreciate the deeper overhang more than he will. NYC - Thanks for referencing your kitchen thread. How beautiful! You must be thrilled with it! I love all your selections. I went with different brands but similar appliance choices. Getting the Advantium and hope to use it partially as a second oven too, 42" SxS SZ, 36" 6 burner Wolf (gas). In hindsight I could have spent more time in the planning stages for this remodel but as a CT resident who is sitting in my office looking at the Brooklyn Bridge to the North - I think you can imagine where a lot of my time goes! ;0) How deep is your new overhang? Do you know how they supported it? Meyers- That is exactly what I needed to hear! What is your counter material? Granite? The fabricator I am working with comes recommended by my cabinet maker who seems to have a real "craftsman" mentality - measure twice & cut once - but you never know until you know. Still not sure which way I will go on the counter material. Love the soapstone and have seen it in action in a friend's kitchen - but have done so much research I am a little frightened of some of the negative comments I have seen. So much of this is a leap of faith! To add to my stress levels - DH is travelling for two weeks, DS (11yo) got picked up from daycamp with a mild concussion yesterday and is being 'cocooned' (no tv, video games, cognitive stimulus for 48hours and probably no camp until Tuesday!), humidity is extending drying times for the cabinet finishes significantly according to the CM so work in my house may not begin until the 22nd (originally planned for this week) at which time I will be away on vacation, the new appliances are arriving on Monday and I am planning to have them take away the current fridge and disconnect the old range and microwave (which, by the way, I had to purchase in November two days before Thanksgiving JIT to host 22 for dinner thanks to Sandy and electrical problems with the old one) which will put me without cooking capabilities for the duration (I do have a back-up fridge in the garage) and... wait for it.... my mother and stepfather have decided to arrive from SC for three or four days on Sunday! Thank you all for bearing with my ramblings! I needed a good rant....See MoreHelp, another last minute decision
Comments (6)Thanks all. My decision is made, I am going to hold down the three wall cabinets, but I still have the weekend to change my mind. I figure, if I hate it, I can always have a small cabinet built on top to raise them to the ceiling. I do have a plan for the space on top of the cabs. Ever since seeing a carved wooden pig in a shop in China Town, I have been on the lookout for something similar. I also have a collection of maneki nekos that might look good up there. So, something sculptural that might just need a going over with a feather duster. Regarding the range, leave your envy for someone with a glass induction range top. It takes me a half hour to clean the top after cooking dinner, and I'm not even a messy cook. When that hunk was installed I looked at it (I swear it was looking at me too) and almost burst into tears. I thought, why didn't I get a simple cooktop, and not some machine that I have to read through a book to learn how to use. But now I love it. I learned by twisting knobs and checking for the smell of gas....See MorePlease help with a last minute soap dispenser decision.
Comments (12)I have had a soap dispenser for many years at my sink. I don't remember the brand but when we did some renovations 2 1/2 years ago, the same old dispenser went into the new granite counter top and it still works great. I don't have one at our lake home and I miss it. I found out about the Never MT attachments so you can have a large jug of dish soap and not bother always filling the small bottle. You used to be able to get 2 or 3 of them for a better price or free shipping (can't remember exactly). I asked a couple friends if they wanted one while I was ordering mine and they didn't have soap dispensers. But only because they never even knew of them or thought of them. I find I am often using the dish soap to wash my hands when working with raw meat or something. It's antibacterial and I don't even keep hand soap there. It doesn't seem to dry out my hands or anything....See Moretownlakecakes
