We have a small problem with the hood vent. Our wall is not thick enough to hide the pipe so the contractor had to cut out a section of the drywall (see top right of first picture). Contractor will patchup that section but there will be an angle drywall from the ceiling to the right wall and we do not want to see any of the dry wall modifications that have been made. Right now there is 8 inches from top of the molding to the ceiling. Do you think we should install a 3-4 inch filler between cabinets and crown molding? Or will the filler look weird? Please provide your feedback and recommendations.

I’m just here looking for other people’s opinions to see if that would help determine if these two match. Yes, we can determine if a paint color and an object - in your case a counter top - relate in terms of color. There's a process to follow, however, so it's a specific color strategy and not abstract guessing while standing in a paint store. We qualify the relationship on the three psychological dimensions of color hue, value and chorma. Using a standard light source called D65. We can also check it under other light sources. The science rule of thumb is if the color "match" or relationship works under 2 to 3 light source models, like daylight D65 and standard incandescent (in science terms called Illuminant A), then it's highly likely that the color relationship - the colors will go together - under ANY light source. This has nothing to do with photos of anything, btw. In order to do this, we need the color data values, the color measurement from the granite sample itself. You would do this using a Color Muse. We do this all day, every day here at The Land of Color. Because we understand everyone isn't an interior designer. Many need a framework to follow to figure out color conundrums. You just need to understand - and it sounds like you do - that your granite sample may not be exact to the slab that ends up installed. I've never personally seen that be that big of an issue, meaning the color appearance from sample to slab is usually close enough that the paint colors identified based on the sample work.

Hi again, I don't see those tile choices working with a waterjet pattern behind the range. If you are going to mix tiles, in my opinion they have to have some relationship to each other to work. If you try to mix two very different tiles with nothing to tie them together, they just look lost with each other. Look at pictures on Houzz of kitchens with accent tiles behind the range. The ones that look best are the ones where the two tiles are alike in some way If you feel you want to do an accent tile behind the range and you want a waterjet style then I think you need to look for tiles that compliment the waterjet. This one is gold accent with Calacatta and Thassos. Thassos is quite white, the Calacatta has the grey veining. Then you could choose a Calacatta marble for the rest of the backsplash area. I know this is subway and you said you'd prefer not to have subway, but you can find Calacatta in many shapes and sizes. This one is Calacatta Blue....you'd need to talk to your tile supplier to find a matching tile for the rest of the space but this idea marries the white and gold and blue colours you've chosen. This one is Thassos and Mother of Pearl. You might be able to find a mother of pearl tile with blues in it that would work with this. This one is dolomite and Lais grey. It looks blue to me, but on the purple side. I think I'd choose white dolomite to go with this one. This one caught my eye for you. It is paper white, carrara and brass. You could find a carrara tile for the rest of the space. But, if you like the one from Sonoma Tiles.....it comes in other shapes and colours. You could try mixing the shapes. I don't know how much surface you need to cover. I think you'd want to get some samples and see if too much of the pattern is going to feel overwhelming. This is their Bodhi Iridescent in three different shapes...and there are more than that on their website. Maybe this brick pattern everywhere else and one of the patterns below behind the range? This has the darker blues than the one pictured previously. Here is a blue and white kitchen with these tiles. It is a different blue than yours.....but they are using the brass pulls and accents.

Take your sample door to the stone yard to test next to the countertop candidates. The light will be much brighter there than at home, so also bring home small samples of the countertops to look at there.
