You paint a large board in either of the existing whites. If those don't work you try another white. The only way to test is in your kitchen in YOUR lighting and with the natural light in your kitchen.

Before you get cupboards painted, and tops installed, make certain you are happy with all else, and the most important is your layout and appliances. If you require more light, you attend to that with an electrician.

Cabinetry is best painted professionally, in a spray booth with conversion varnish all doors and drawer faces removed to off site. A good paint result is not inexpensive, requires excellent prep and the proper process.

Jan is right there is no way to advise color on a monitor anyway. Your slabs you choose will also have a huge effect on color I might be tempted to do a very pale gray instead of white . Are you redoing old cabinets or are these brand new and not installed If brand new IMO the best finish is a factory one.

You must buy samples & use them vertically against a horizontal sample of your countertop.

Is it possible to find out if Sherwin Williams Pure White can match Calacatta laza in generic good light? I understand the exact lighting I have will affect it but I’m just looking for a general idea.

What in the H E double matchsticks is "generic good light" ? No I am not kidding! Your tops are an MSI quartz. Go get a larger sample and borrow it from a store or fabricator selling that material. Hold that sample to your two existing trims.......better yet if you have some left overs and can paint a couple big boards.

Those don't work? Then you need to head to the paint store with that darn SAMPLE OF THE TOP MATERIAL IN YOUR HAND, Then you paint a couple of big boards with one or two of those with some paint advice at the counter in the paint store..

Sound like work? Yes.........So is painting the cabinetry. Or you can listen to someone who has something in a different house than yours, with different light, get all done and hate the result.

You have to do the work. Or you have to get an interior designer on your site to do the work for you. She may suggest fixing the "generic good light" : ) if that is a boob light in the middle of your kitchen and we shall pray that is not the case.

A lot of people in the paint section ask if trim color A matches wall color B without going into a lot of detail regarding the exact lighting etc etc. I don’t see how this is different. I just want to see what people’s thoughts are generally regarding this combo.

You have NO clue what was used in an Internet photo for a paint color! Unless the name is in the description!

You are looking at styled and professionally lit photos. Could have taken all day to get ONE appealing photo and your phone or monitor can lie!

Maybe I need to reword this. I have the granite sample and I have the trim already painted in the rest of my house. I can put them next to each other and stare all day and not know if these two match as I’m not a designer. I’m just here looking for other people’s opinions to see if that would help determine if these two match. It would be great if they do because I can just have my cabinets painted the same as trim instead of looking for another white to go in the room which I think could start looking really messy given the different shades of white. There’s no need to curse with your double matchsticks. If this post offends you, perhaps you shouldn’t respond.

Yes, we can determine if a paint color and an object - in your case a counter top - relate in terms of color.

There's a process to follow, however, so it's a specific color strategy and not abstract guessing while standing in a paint store.

We qualify the relationship on the three psychological dimensions of color hue, value and chorma.

Using a standard light source called D65.

We can also check it under other light sources.

The science rule of thumb is if the color "match" or relationship works under 2 to 3 light source models, like daylight D65 and standard incandescent (in science terms called Illuminant A), then it's highly likely that the color relationship - the colors will go together - under ANY light source.

This has nothing to do with photos of anything, btw.

In order to do this, we need the color data values, the color measurement from the granite sample itself. You would do this using a Color Muse.

We do this all day, every day here at The Land of Color. Because we understand everyone isn't an interior designer. Many need a framework to follow to figure out color conundrums.

You just need to understand - and it sounds like you do - that your granite sample may not be exact to the slab that ends up installed.

I've never personally seen that be that big of an issue, meaning the color appearance from sample to slab is usually close enough that the paint colors identified based on the sample work.

There is NO color variation to the slab. It's man made. It's QUARTZ.

Oh boy. Came to this thread looking for similar help. So much snobbery for a very simple question!

Most of us here are not designers or have that "eye". We need general direction and then we can go do *all the necessary things that one must do to find the right match*.

Jesus...Jan seems more like a Karen then Karen does!

I am using the SW PUre White with my Calcatta Laza. I like the combo because the Pure White doesn't turn as cream in different lighting or through out the day in natural light. I prefer a cool white and I think it looks great with the Laza.
