Shaw's Firehouse 1 1/2 bowl sink?
Comments (1)I do have the Shaws Fireclay sink, 1 1/2 bowl. I've had installation issues - - might want to see if the people who are going to put it in/sell it to you can show you how they've done other installs. If you are a DIY, you might want to check the specs. I am thinking about getting grids for the bottom - that runs another $300. There is the whole issue about flange tightening that I only recently read about on GardenWeb. Hope my plumber didn't tighten the flange too much when he put in the garbage disposal. You do need an extended flange with the Shaws, a detail that caused further delay with my installation. Note in particular that installers may struggle with the radius cuts around the edges. Whoever installs it needs appropriate skills, equipment and patience. A squared bottom farmhouse sink might pose different challenges but might, just might, be easier to install. Think, too, about where you will mount your faucets - - the sink is big. You'll want some way to be able to rinse down the whole shebang....See MoreFaucet reach for Blanco 1 1/2 bowl sink
Comments (4)I have the low divide Silgranit - you don't want the faucet to be able to rotate past the small sink and land on the counter top. it looks like the smaller bowl is 9 inches - so draw a radius with your 10 inch faucet reach and you should be just inside the perimeter - Don't worry about it landing directly over the bigger sink hole - some say yes but I am in the camp that it is better to land slightly in front of the hole and allow the water to wash things into the hole (and generally less splash - splash happens when the flow hits uneven surfaces) Your spray head(either pull out or pull down) will take care of the rest....See Moresingle bowl sink vs 2 bowl sink
Comments (13)I had a hard time deciding too. I took a hard look at how I use my sink (currently a double). We have a garden and belong to a CSA, so I soak a lot of veges on the right side while cleanup is on the left. I also like to wash on the left and drain the clean items on the right. I wanted to be able to lay cookie sheets and long pans flat too. I found a sink that satisfied both needs. I'm getting the Franke PRX120. I love this particular sink because it only needs a 39" base cabinet, whereas similarly sized sinks require a 42" base cabinet. Plus it has an integral shelf (optional) that you can rest a grid on that raises up the bottom so you don't have to reach in as far when you don't need to. I can lay flat my biggest cookie sheets and baking pans. It is stainless steel. In the end though go with what you like best, most people have definite preferences one way or the other. Do you know someone with a single bowl that you can try out the way that you'd be using it?...See MoreSilgranite Single Lg Bowl vs 2/3 - 1/3 Split - Config One Sink Only
Comments (6)I'm not a silgranite owner, just a person who has had a single bowl, double bowl AND a triple bowl sink and my preference is for a triple bowl. On GW, single bowl seems to reign supreme. In real life though, I've never met a person who preferred a single bowl to a double (or more) I think a lot of it comes down to personal dishwashing habits. Do you wash a lot of dishes by hand or are you a "throw everything in the dishwasher" type? Do you wipe down your counters and sink every night or are you the type that goes to bed with dirty dishes sitting in the sink? IMHO, I've noticed a commonality among those who strongly prefer a single sink and it is that 1. They seem to do more hand washing (which actually doesn't make sense to me at all) and 2. they clean their counters and sinks before going to bed. For me, as an "everything goes in the dishwasher" type and I regularly go to bed with dirty dishes in the sink, I prefer a partition (or two) so that I have an area to place the dishes waiting for the dishwasher and I still have an area to scrub/prep/rinse/wash hands etc. To me there is no "right" answer, it is entirely subjective and based on your own personal habits....See Morejmorawiec
