Comments (7)You will lose the benefit of having the engine operate at a consistent temperature. Engine temperature without a thermostat will vary depending on ambient air temperature and the loading conditions of the engine. Engine warm up after a cold start will be delayed somewhat. I would expect any "problems" from not having a thermostat would occur during cold weather operation more than during summer time operation. Thermostatic control of coolant flow has several myths that arise in popular culture. One myth being that a "cooler rated" thermostat will result in the engine automatically assuming the new lower OPENING TEMPERATURE as its OPERATING TEMPERATURE. The rating of the T-stat only governs the temp where the T-stat begins to open allowing coolant circulation through the radiator. And under ideal conditions, that rating may in fact be the temperature the engine will operate at. But higher ambient air temps, dirty radiator cooling fins obstructing air flow, anything blocking air flow through the radiator, a collapsed coolant hose, etc can and will result in the engine temperature rising higher than the opening temp rating of the thermostat. Operating without a thermostat during cold weather will cause a number of problems, the most insidious being degradation of the engine lube oil due to moisture in blow-by gases condensing into the oil and never being driven out again by the beneficial "normal operating temperature" being attained due to "over cooling" the engine....See MoreThermostat wiring help, Honeywell to White-Rodgers
Comments (5)Replaced an old round honeywell heat/cool thermostat with an white-rodger 1F78-144. Unit works well in cool and works in heat but notice on/off flashing repeatedly on the board in heating. This supposed to mean a low voltage wiring problem. The unit is non-programmable and I wired r/r with jumper intact,g/g,w/w and blue on the yellow terminal going to yellow on the board. Did I miss something?...See Moreprogrammable thermostat help
Comments (1)kgwlisa, I am not aware of Thermostat which will do that. Typically a thermostat is a single zone control, which some have the option to run a remote sensor (Honeywell). The only other option you have is a "Home Automation System" to control several zones from one location. A home automation system will control lighting, audio, Security and other devices, but will run you thousands. I could be wrong thou. Comments (3)It appears you have wired the new thermostat correctly. How long does the blower run before the condenser kicks in? How long are you waiting between attempts of lowering the thermostat temperature in order to start the condenser? What might be happening in the new thermostat is the the G terminal is energized immediately which turns on the blower, and the Y terminal has a delay and energizes after a period of time. On most furnace control boards the Y terminal also turns on the blower. So as an experiment try disconnecting the G terminal and then lower the thermostat enough to turn on the AC. The blower and condenser should turn on at the same time. The clunking you hear is probably the condenser contractor closing. I don't see how changing the thermostat would affect the noise level....See MoreUser
