Need curb appeal ideas!
Comments (34)Here I am reading the post, not realizing it's old (only on my 2nd coffee) lol I was going to suggest painting it green, but a different shade, or darker grays / more of I guess an earthy neutral. I would take it one step farther and paint or change out the door, but the house looks great! The satellite dish was actually a plus, hope you kept it? I can't tell you how many my son installs especially with football season coming. If people have cable there, they may be looking to move away from it like we most likely will do. Glad you decided not to take the Rhodie out. Depending on where you live, it may not be as hardy in a new plant version if the owners want one or hacking it back very well could have killed it. FWIW, I liked the idea to add decorative lighting to the garage, and would have gone one step farther with a lighted walkway. I went to realtor.com, ask your agent to change out the main picture or if you like the one they have, ask her to retake the photo without the minivan if something happens with the offer. Good luck....See MorePlease help with Front Door and Curb Appeal
Comments (34)I can totally relate to your situation. We bought a retirement home five years ago, just one month before the real estate market started to collapse. We still had our other home and thought we would have no problem selling it. We were anxious to get all the "equity" we had in the first house. Now we can't sell either home. We don't want to get into the "renting" business either, but we have no choice. My suggestions to you is forget any flowers since you live out of state and can't take care of them. I would paint the front door a "brick red", almost like a burgundy. I would not paint the garage doors, take down any shutters or do any more work. If that is grime on the siding, I would get the house pressure washed. Anyone that buys it will know it is a fixer upper. I know from personal experience, as we sunk a lot of money into our first house ...new stove, new countertops, new cabinet hardware, had the entire house painted, had the porch steps ripped out and redone...believe me, any $$$ you spend (except getting rid of the pink door, lol) is going to be a waste of time and money. The market is bad and no amount of expensive repairs, color changes, is going to change that. It's definitely a buyer's market, not a seller's market. Chispa is right on the money! What WILL change it is lowering the price. We chose not to lower our price because the house we moved out of is a better house than the one we moved too. We couldn't get anymore for it than what we pay for the "downsized" house. It's really sad the market is so bad, but if you and your husband don't mind waiting, you may be able to get a little closer to the price you want, but don't count on it. By the way, our first house we tried to sell is on three beautiful acres, close to shopping, close to the interstate...none of that accounts for anything in a bad market. I wish you the best of luck!...See MoreCurb Appeal Help Needed (and appreciated!)
Comments (49)Hi All - Yup, I'm still here. I just love looking at the pictures and savoring all the ideas... and I don't want to miss anything, so I keep coming back! :) I'm traveling right now though, so I've had much more limited access to my computer. As for the plant hardiness zone, I am in southern NH and it is generally considered 5-6 around here (NH does have zones down to 3, but those are pretty far north and probably higher in elevation too). Dogwoods should do nicely around here and there should be plenty to pick from at the garden centers. Can't wait 'til I get home so I can see what I can get started on. I'll probably have to start with planning the plantings since the screen porch is currently the workshop for the power tools needed to fix the interior issues. Thanks for the links and for the advice for copying the photos. I think I will get started on that tonight! I'm sure many others on the forum would agree that your work here should be immortalized forever... not deleted after a few months. :) Thanks! -Paula...See MoreCurb appeal for this old house!
Comments (44)Wow, beautiful change! With the height you had to work with between the top of your doors and the sofits, you had plenty of options available. I like the porch you chose, and the bump-out on the bedroom windows. I find my eye first drawn to all of the light color paint on the bump-out, though, instead of to the porch. Would you consider using the trim color - the one on the shutters - for the body of the bump-out, and using the white or light color just on the triangle "roof line" and "belt line" of the bump-out, so that it mimics the garage on the other side, but does not grab the eye so much? Love the stonework, love the colors, and can't wait till spring to see the landscaping!...See MoreMatt Primeau
