Frustrating trip to the paint store (and internet vs real life)
Comments (10)BAFrancy & Bubbam, Good grief!!...I wish you two could come to ND to our store!! We've had Cabinet-Coat for YEARS! We're an ACE store. MOST ACE stores can get CC, but some may be Gun-shy if they've never had it. Minimum order is 2 gallons. * On a similiar note, ACE just came out with their version of CC, called "ACE Cabinet, Door & Trim" paint. * The big win with the ACE is that it's 50-State VOC-legal right out of the gate. * Both CC & the ACE clean up with soap & water. * The ACE is tintable to 98% of the normal ACE colors, although there's no "Red or Yellow-Base" in this new line. * Both have Alkyd & Latex resins..."Hybrids" if you will! >>> Myself & others have posted lots about CC & the new ACE version on this forum. >>> I grinned pretty wide when you referenced the BIN primer comment!! We sell a lot of BIN, to novice AND Pros! >>> 123 IS a good primer on wood. Kinda smelly for a Latex, but a very good primer. * I wouldn't use Oil anywhere on your cabs. For the smoothest look possible, you can sand your primer lightly after a longer drytime. * An Oil PRIMER is OK, but the latexes are equal nowadays. * There's really no advantage to Oil topcoat(s). They start to yellow as part of the natural aging/curing. * Remove dust, and use 2 coats of CC/similiar, one day apart. It's kinda funny...every so often, customers at our counter tell others..."Yeah, you DO need to use the Gray-primer like he said..."!! Faron...See MoreUgh, outlet on navy blue island...help...outlet in another color?
Comments (15)I told the GC and the electrician that we couldn't put an outlet on the panel under a seating overhang but they didn't listen and we failed the inspection. You can't have an outlet under an overhang of more than 6". The inspector did say that we could use a surface mounted box right at the edge of the overhang. It's ugly and I hate it. We are going to figure out a better solution. I have seating on 2 sides of the island, a bookshelf on the other short side, and drawers all across the front. I REALLY wish we had planned a strip at the top of the drawers for a few outlets. As for the OP's question, I would paint the outlet and cover plate to match the island....See MoreIs Hale Navy too dark for an entire room?
Comments (41)If you’re keeping that rug, I don’t love navy for the walls. I don’t like it with the sage/orange colors. Also don’t like the black chairs against the navy wall. I do love your windows, however, so pretty! I would add add some additional lighting if possible. If you can’t get some hardwired sconces, then plug-in sconces with a clean covered cord still look fine. Or lamps on a sideboard or small table. The room is going to look very dark if you paint the walls dark and only have 4 bulbs overhead in a single chandelier. Even if you don’t paint the room dark, having some more levels of lighting will be nice and make the room feel cozier. I don’t know what the other walls in the room look like in terms of where to place a fixture, but your photos look like they could use more lighting to me....See MoreDark Blue Cabinets
Comments (6)DH was very, very disappointed at the blue on our island until I pointed out the four sides are looked different because of the light. Paint a sample poster board with the color you love and move it around your room. Look at it in morning sun, lunchtime shade and by room lighting at night. The west wall will look different than the south wall, etc. Now, you won’t be surprised when the cabinets are painted and look “off”. They are not—the light changes things. It is well worth several different quarts of blue paint to paint large poster boards ( buy at any craft store-cheap). I tried three shades of gold before I found the one I loved. It was well worth $50 or $60 to experiment rather than despair after I had spent thousands on cabinets I hated....See Morepugga
