Any big store that sells furnishings will have catalogs that will show interiors full of their decor etc, displaying different options in a pleasing way, and giving you all sorts of clues of what goes with what. Whether it's Ballard Designs, Pottery Barn, CB2, West Elm, Anthropologie..you name it. The main problem with it-you don't want your room to look like a catalog one..:) The companies show their products. Your house should show you..which is much more interesting and complicated. So take clues from the pics, and then hunt stuff, partially, elsewhere. And especially look everywhere for art that touches you deeply. Look at it like a book..since that what art does-it makes us feel and think things, it transports us, it can even change us...would you match a book exactly to your decor? no, right? (tan and grey look great together. lots of beaches are a bit tan, grey, and a lot of seafoam..))

I would recommend either a solid color fabric, or a very soft, subtle pattern (almost tone on tone). The fabric on the chair seats and the chair backs already have quite a bit of detail, and the wood shutters bring in some texture as well, so I think your drapes should create a simple but elegant backdrop. My favorite look for drapes are ones that are fairly close to the wall color, (could be a tone or two lighter or darker) and that are hung from as close to the ceiling as possible, ending just above the floor (floor length, but not puddled). If you have enough room on both sides of your windows, extend the rod past the width of the windows by about 10-12", so that when the drapes are open, they can hang straight down with the inner edge just meeting the window, and not actually covering it. I personally love linen drapes, but if you want a little more bling, consider an edging like a Greek key in gold, or a silk drape that has some sheen). Double or triple the panels on each side, for a full look. Here are a few looks to consider. Going with a higher contrast drape, like a blue or green from your chair fabric or art, could look quite good too, but I'd still stick with a more solid color look. Hopefully (since you said originally) you moved somewhere warmer :) it's freezing here! I would do olive and add maybe and something lighter purple than the eggplant. I would add texture with one of the pillows being something like faux fur and another pillow with a pattern for interest. Here are some sample pillows and color palette ideas. I usually just do two to three throw pillows so it's not pillow overload but that's up to you of course.

Look at Soumak rugs. I had numerous Soumak rugs (most by Kalaty) in our last home - laundry room (photo here), breakfast area, living room, dining room, foyer and a guest bedroom. Several doormats coming in from back veranda also. Several are still used in our new home. They are not as soft as wool, but they are not scratchy. 3 dogs, 4 cats, 2 grandchildren and 1 DH, and they still look brand new. They come in all sizes. They repel dirt and liquids wipe up easily. How big is your room? It looks like you could bump up to a larger rug, say a 9x12 or a 10 x 14.
