How would you decorate my dining room?
Comments (5)I would look at something from Tommy Bahama, Stanley, or Lexington since it is your money and they all have gorgeous traditional sets that have a tropical vacation home feel. The brand names on this page links to their catalog (FL btw and they are having a sale on these brands now) http://www.annabellesfurniture.com/ The link below has chairs that are similar but a little less heavy than the model home Here is a link that might be useful: lexington monterey sands chair...See MoreHelp! Comments (2)Do you own or is this a rental? The pix look a little stretched like realty ones. Since there is a rad between the doors, forget putting TV there. I'd keep the dining close to the kitchen and put the sitting/TV area to focus on the long wall. Start with the fun project of finding a knockout chandelier to hang from that pretty ceiling. Is there a fridge under the microwave? I see only one wall outlet behind the door and one above the counter, so you'll have to use extension cords and cord covers along the baseboards to have enough lighting here. Consider floating your sofa facing the long wall and TV. Then use a drop leaf table behind it for dining. You'll be able to open it all the way for entertaining. Anchor your seating area with a rug 2-3 feet wider than your sofa....See MoreDecorating dining room table?
Comments (19)I want to echo what Samondragon said that I was surprised to see you mention your house is otherwise Transitional. Your dining room has only traditional elements to it. There is not a hint of anything other than traditional. I would not fight that, I'd embrace it, which you already have with the furnishings and rug. Don't change the chandelier, it fits with the room. Because you cannot fit the painting that is over the silver properly inside the molding on that wall due to the light switch, I'd switch that painting for the smaller one that is to the left of the mirror, which will fit with the light switch on that wall. Put the larger painting in the wall space on the left of the mirror that was vacated by the smaller painting. As others have said, remove the tablecloth and doily. Put just one showpiece item on the dining table - perhaps a dramatic large glass bowl to add lightness (needs to be empty, no tchotchkes in the bowl). Also, not only polish the silver, but remove the greenery on that tray that is with the silver. That greenery is not good. The silver pieces are beautiful....See MoreHow can I decorate a dining table?
