Chrome stopped working with "Aw, Snap!" message

Below the "Aw, Snap!" message, it says "Something went wrong while displaying this webpage" Then there is a link "Learn More" which takes me to the same page. There is a "Reload" button, and that does not help either. If I type in a web address, it goes back to the same page. I uninstalled Chrome along with anything that I had added to it and reinstalled it, and I still get the same problem. Then I installed Opera, thinking it might be another option, but it only gives me a page that says "Page crashed Unforutunately, something caused this page to quit. It might have been an extensions conflict or some of the reason. Try reloading the page, or navigate to another page to continue", and the there is a "Reload this page button" which does nothing to solve the problem.

I normally only use Firefox, but it was giving me problems with Facebook - I think because I had an ad-blocker turned on, but when I turned that off, the problems with Facebook continued - mainly that it is extremely slow and it is extremely difficult to compose any text.

I installed Malwarebytes, and it told me that it detected no malware. I have Kapersky virus protection, and I think that protects me against malware anyway, but I'm not sure.

What do I have to do to get Chrome and/or Opera to work. I don't want to be stuck with just one browser option. Is there another browser that I should try instead.

I got MS Edge to work with facebook - is that my only option? What are you opinions of Edge?

Because I loaded it on my computer and it screws everything up, and makes the computer lock up, no matter if it's IE or Firefox. One more thing I'm blaming on Vista, just because I hate it. Of course my AVG and Firefox is fighting all the time too, as is AVG and this site. well, none of that happens here at Elery's with his Mac, only at home with my Dell. Annie

One of the main reasons I stopped using Vaska for general-purpose loads was the suds issue. When I washed a load of towels and/or ran a load of clothes on a cycle that used the internal heater (i.e. not cold) even a single capful of Vaska created a mountain of suds that often took a second full-cycle without detergent to remove. I think they designed the detergent primarily for cold-water washing and didn't take into account washers with internal heaters, which seem to increase suds production and "set" those suds into a foam that's really difficult to remove. I still use Vaska for silk/wool/delicates, but those are usually washed on cold or cool, don't get that dirty and I never use more than 1/2 cap any more.

I got a malware virus and I think it was from here. Non-stop pop-ups.

nightowl, are you using Firefox? I had a similar problem last year ... I would click on a heading in GW and it would open to a random site on another page, constant pop-ups, etc. I notified GW and although they did ask me to specify details, I don't believe anything was done on their end and the issues remained. I paid a service provided my my ISP that supposedly cleared my computer of malware, but still had the problem, and only when accessing GW. I ended up deleting Firefox and the problem went with it. I've been using Chrome since without issues. I also installed Malwarebytes and run it periodically.

Thanks everyone for the commiseration - we're all in this together, that's for sure. I know many of you have already voiced your comments [HERE[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/new-look-for-gardenweb-topics-dsvw-vd~5342444) but if you haven't, that's the 'consolidated' thread for griping. You're welcome to gripe here, too but you're singing to the choir - at least Emily reads that other thread and somewhat addresses some of the issues some of the time. How's that for a qualified endorsement ;-) I have not posted there about the message issues out of an abundance of caution although I really don't believe they would care if we stay or go. However I haven't seen it brought up by anyone else so perhaps it's a problem on my end. Don't want to throw blame if it's not them.

When I used Facebook on Chrome (before Chrome stopped working), I could type very fast, but then I did not use Chrome for anything else, and that may have been a factor. Edge seems to be working just as well as Chrome did before, but I would like to have Chrome (and Opera) as options because I may have additional problems in the future. Facebook has always been slow on Firefox and has a lot of issues there.

BTW, I'm using Windows 10.

There is a lot of info on awe snap error. I hardly use a computer these days but when I do I use edge and have no problems with it. I was an IE person before this had no problems with that either. Mary

I've used Firefox for hundreds of years and have no trouble with it on Facebook ... or any other web site except streaming General Hospital via ABC.com. One of my addons apparently causes a conflict that makes it restart the show from the beginning at every successive commercial break. That doesn't happen when I use the "default" Firefox profile that doesn't have any addons.

From what I can tell, the problem I has is with the most recent Windows updates. I did find a message from someone who had the same problem I have, and they said that removing the latest three Windows updates allowed them to use Chrome again. It appears that Windows is at war with Chrome. I'm not sure how to undo my latest Windows updates or whether this is a good idea. For now, I am stuck using Edge - I guess that is the purpose of the Windows updates - to force people to use Edge instead of Chrome. I have never liked IE, and so I am suspicious of Edge and do not like being forced to use it.

Well, I waited a few days, and today I was able to download and install Chrome again, and so I won't be using Edge any more. I have no idea why it worked this time.

The good this is that when I logged on to facebook with Chrome reinstalled, I was able to tell it I never wanted any pop-up notifications. Those irritated me no end, and I hope that is the end of them. I logged out of facebook on Firefox, but when I logged in on Edge, I was automatically logged back into facebook on Firefox, and that irritated me also.

But does it do the same with other browsers? If just IE have you tried resetting the browser? Mary

I'm only using Chrome for facebook now, and the good thing is that I seldom use facebook any more. It's nice for keeping in touch with a few friends, but there aren't that many that use it, and so it's not all that helpful. I have not been able to get Chrome under control regarding searches, and so I never use it for that. I do use Chrome at work, but it is an old version that is running with XP. I like it much better than Chrome with Windows 10.
