What to do with this custom entertainment unit - pic heavy
Comments (34)I have a post on here asking about my office color. And your hooker piece is EXACTLY the one I am eyeing for my office..... in the same color way. Have you seen it IRL? It's not a solid black. It's rubbed with some reds and bronzes, etc. It's really beautiful, so those who suggested the rub have a great idea. That's the beauty of hooker... they do several "layers" and their pieces have so much dimension. I love the piece your hubby made. It's beautiful! I wish he could whip one up for me, too. :o) ha, ha. I vote for painting it like hooker. If you get the doors faux finished with the brown on the doors, that will pull in your leather sectional. And the black really doesn't look like a black hole IRL. Your photoshopped hooker piece isn't doing it justice. Seriously jaw-dropping in person. So I vote for the black. I do see you are thinking espresso, and that would look good. But if you don't FLIP over the espresso, please consider the black rub. Have your painter do a few colors dry brushed onto the black. I think you'll love it!! :o)...See Morewhich entertainment unit
Comments (42)Great job with the photoshop! Both are nice, but I prefer the height of #2. brutuses - I have that same exact photo saved as an example of the entertainment unit I'd like to have made for my living room. Are you having yours custom made also? I haven't even begun to get quotes yet. I'd love to see a photo of yours when it's done. It sounds like the changes you've made will be perfect!...See MoreChalk Painted China Cabinet
Comments (40)Thanks, molly! :) When it first came to my attention, I chalked (ha, ha) it up to just another fad in blogland .... destined to become as hated and looked down on as sponge painted walls. :-D But it's really just the name that is new (20 yrs or so), while the look/technique/mixture are ancient. Not our mixes, since we use latex, but the lime, silica, chalk, etc used then. I also started researching painted antiques (painted back then, not current), and saw many similarities. It's always been around, and many stunning pieces still exist. I'm picky about my goals: to paint pieces that I hope will stand the test of time, and NOT look like a cliche someday .... to take something very unwanted, destined for trash pick-up, and bring out it's beauty for many more years ... and, I will not paint just for the sake of change. I absolutely love wood finishes, but there's certainly room for painted pieces, too. :)...See MoreLiving room suggestions - TV placement, couch/chair style/layout?
Comments (8)Their current lay out block traffic flow. I would much rather go with a love seat and a few comfy chairs. How many in your family. That is how many seats you need. The rest is over kill and does anyone actually FILL a huge sectional or do three people use it? I am just not a fan. As for the TV placement, most want a visual of both the fireplace and the TV so your plan seems to be a decent option. The built in would be worth looking at...It is ironic how often the MOSTLY unused fireplaces everyone desires really messes with furniture arranging. Your new floors are to die for. This gray fad confuses me. Gray is cold, like stainless. Your kitchen and flooring are so warm and rich looking. Half your new space is painted warm the other cool... Which colors will you embrace?...See More- 5 years ago
