Comments (42)Hi Nancy-I will post some closeups of the door hardware. It is from Linnea and I think I got that hint from enduring. Anyway, I have trouble with my hands as well-just arthritis but my CMC (thumb) joint is especially weak and painful. (We are retired PT's so you are getting even extra "professional" help. Ha.) The main hardware came with something that pops out to pull the door closed: Note I don't need to use this if the door is partially open as there is plenty of room for my fingers in the rectangular opening. But if the door is completely closed there is no way I can grab that thing and pull the door open. (It does pop out, but still very hard for me to grab.) So I added this hardware above that, which is also from Linnea: It is super easy to access and use. This is what things look like from the bathroom side. There is a locking mechanism but we have never used it. The other thing to mention is the hanging hardware and track for the door itself. We used Johnson hardware, again from enduring's and others' advice, and it is rock solid wonderful. We had a pocket door originally also; we just moved this opening somewhat. The original door and hardware was somewhat flimsy; one night DH had closed the door sometime (unbeknownst to me) and in my less than alert state I walked right into the door, thinking it was open. It literally knocked it off its track and was never very good after that. That would never happen with this new door and hardware. (also I learned my lesson to open my eyes when walking around in the dark.) Hope this long winded answer helps....See MoreAny other Downton Abbey fans disappointed by this season?
Comments (22)I normally don't lurk on this side of Home Decorating, but I peeked in and saw this thread. It gives me a chance to vent about this series. I'm a die-hard Upstairs/Downstairs fan and I tried watching Downton Abbey when it first aired but did not enjoy it. Almost every scenario they came up with was done and done much better in Up/Dwnstrs. After saying this I continue to tune in now and then and am amazed at how the writers think that staff would be interacting with the upstairs as much as they do in this series. Maids being asked for and having their advice taken? Staff conversing and engaged with family members so casually? I don't think so. Besides, Richard is such a weak version of Mr. Bellamy. lol I do have one question for avid fans - who did Mary have her indiscretion with that caused all the scandal?...See MoreApprentice at 7:00 tonight 3 hrs. Comments (26)I think Clint Black had it right when he said he would fire the editor of the show. That whole group of people basically had their reputations tarnished or ruined. I never rally saw anything to make me dislike Clint, but he was painted as a bad guy. Through the magic of editing, anyone can be made to look bad or good. I don't like being arund manipulative people like Annie, but you see it in business every day. Often those people are successful because they know how to catch flies with sugar. Annie knew how to push Joan's buttons and Joan reacted every time. Joan was more offensive to me because she was so foul and was mean to everyone. If it was mainly between her and Annie, it wouldn't have been so offensive....See Moreany designer out there willing to answer some questions?
Comments (70)To answer (some of) your original question(s), whenever I've worked with a decorator they have 100% stood behind the products they've helped me obtain. Recently a headboard I had made (through the designer) was delivered in the wrong colorway: I refused delivery and called the designer. They immediately (& kindly) apologized and said they would take care of it. Within twenty-four hours they called me back to let me know it was being made again, in the correct colorway and as a rush order. She was professional, courteous (but not obsequious) and sounded genuinely kind and concerned about my (headboard) happiness. Then when the delivery company the designer had contracted gave me a hard time just this past Thursday (trying to charge me for a redelivery fee when delivering the new, correct headboard) I called her again. Again, she immediately did everything right, she said all the right things (sincerely apologized, told me I was right, said she would contact the delivery company, etc.), and took care of it. Like a few above respondents (and I'm sorry I didn't carefully read all of them -- you've a lot of supporters out there!) my experience has been that the designer / decorator is my advocate and has left me feeling cossetted. The only negative experience I had (and it was a doozy) was with an unethical kitchen designer and we contentiously parted ways. But she'd made it abundantly clear that if anything hit the fan I'd be left to clean it up. Alone. She'd be off getting her nails done and screwing her next client. We "lost" some money with her but when I think of the money we would have lost (and that I would have had to spend in therapy / legal fees!) had we continued our "relationship" with her it was well worth it. She happens to be our neighbor! Well, a few houses up the street but we see each other all the time, walking, driving, etc. So I totally understand the uncomfortable social situations! But at the end of the day, I really was right, and not just because "the customer is always right." I was right because I was consistent, forthright, genuine and HONEST. She, like your former designer, was inconsistent, evasive, disingenuous and a prevaricator. Period....See Morerob333 (zone 7b)
