Dark baseboards and crown molding

last modified: 5 years ago

Our home has an abundance of color going from room to room. Although we have an open floorplan, by working with 3 colors and keeping the accent colors in each room the same, the color combo works quite well. Flash forward 16 years and I'd like a more neutral look in our home and plan on painting all of the rooms in a greige color. I like this, but am afraid that going from a lot of color to barely any color will be boring to me. I propose painting the baseboards and crown molding about 3 shades darker than the wall color. At the same time I'd keep the doors, frames, windows, fireplace mantle and picture rail all in a soft white so that we'd have a pop of "crisp' and fresh in the rooms and hallways. Will this be interesting, unique and look good? or just weird? Has anyone seen this done before?
