sloping threshold in shower
Comments (1)Rut Roh-- with frameless glass, make sure you'll be swinging the door IN. Otherwise you'll be having a problem with the canted threshold. Now, to answer your question, it only needs to pitch about an 1/8" or so from front to back, but you need to make sure it's dead level from left to right....See MorePrep for granite on shower knee wall
Comments (1)Yes and no. It shouldn't matter too much, being that it'll be slab stone on top, but this should have been waterproofed, first. Any time you have a horizontal surface in a wet area it should be waterproofed....See MoreTile or what for top of shower bench and knee wall?
Comments (6)I am planning to have the countertop fabricators use some cut off pieces from doing the counter. The quotes I've gotten for the curb and niche are pretty cheap, since the material is basically garbage at that point anyway, it's just the cost of cutting it to size and grinding the edges. The top of the bench is a different story, since it needs a bigger piece. it's minimal if I have to buy a full slab of quartz for the vanity. But I'm hoping to get a remnant, so there might not be enough left over. Buying a full slab so I can have the bench done in the same material is a lot more money. So I'm accepting that there's probably going to be grout lines there. But there's going to be a lot more grout lines on the floor of the shower, so I'm not worried about it from a waterproofing perspective....See More12 x 24 vs 24 x 24 ensuite floor and shower wall tiles?
Comments (3)Very interesting that you were told that 24” x 24” costs more to install... that’s because your tile guy doesn’t like to work with them. I’m putting the same size throughout my entire home and in the process I came across one that wanted considerably more to do 24” x 24” and would do 12” x 24” for way less... and then I found another who looked at more logical and the price was the same regardless of size. I really believe it comes down to the installer, I’m like you and want to see as little grout as possible I also am having mine installed on the diagonal as they will run throughout and in a 4’ hallway that will look much better than straight.
