Sand particles can also be incorporated into aggregates, but it's more difficult because they are so huge and heavy compared to all the other components that go into soil aggregates, and they're not electrostatically "sticky". That's why it's such hard work to improve the water-holding capacity of naturally sandy soils, even if you diligently add and add and add organic material. Definitely ok to have different cabinet styles in baths and kitchen. I like your idea of doing shaker in the the kitchen. Depending on the finish, beadboard can be a strong element in a room so it would be nice break things up with smooth panels. Also, since kitchen cabinets are subject to more potential spills and cooking mess I feel that the shaker would be easier to keep clean. Be sure to post a pic of the new granite and stove!
