hey even a blind nut find a nut sometimes.. give it a go.. what do you have to lose ... but the odds of rooting a TREE .. are low to nil ... unless you have greenhouse.. misting systems.. heating tables.. and doing it at the right time of year.. accomplish all that .... then how do you change your little weeping rootling into a vertical tree, which will then weep ... is the next problem ... i THINK you might find it all overwhelming ... but again .. there isnt much to lose in trying ... if you found a great specimen .. and you want to propagate it .. there are many peeps who specialize in grafting .. who do it rather cheaply ... something like ... just guessing, $5 for the understock .. plus shipping .... if you do a bunch .. i dont know .. but it wouldnt hurt to call some peeps and find out ken

most nurseries .... order in winter for spring delivery ... the wholesalers release odds and ends sales brochures to them in mid summer.. for delivery in fall ... this might not be a tree that pops up in the bigboxstore... or gratuitously ... if you are really keen on it.. talk to you local high end nursery.. and ask if they can order it in for fall or spring ... i would not call them fast growing .... i think i paid about 65 for mine 10 years ago at 4 feet.. and am lucky if it is now 12 to 15 ... very dense though ... bboys point is well taken .... if you want a really red one.. go to the river ... if you just want a non-green one go for a copper ... you get what you pay for ... ken

The damage weed and feed products cause to trees depends mostly on the tree itself and the amount of herbicide exposure. Trees that are shallowly rooted or young will suffer a great deal more damage than older trees with deep roots. Common symptoms include twisting or thickening of stems, narrowing or curling of leaves and calluses forming along exposed roots and stems. Extensive root damage caused by run-off may leave trees with less specific symptoms, especially if the herbicide isn't taken up into the foliage -- these trees may wilt due to a reduced ability to collect water and nutrients from the soil. Although tree death is a serious risk, it is not a guaranteed outcome.

Thanks for your replies. We are located on the Central Coast in California. We are due east of the coastal towns. The tree is large and is obviously old but has undergone some drastic changes just since Thanksgiving. The leaves are now a pale green whereas the oaks near it (within 100') are still healthy looking. I'll look up slime flux and see if that look familiar to what we have. Thanks again.
