Yes. I got two - one on my phone (that made a terrible racket - startled the stuffing out of me) and seconds later, one over the TV. I also get Amber Alerts on my phone.

Ours both did. National Notification System alert, I'm used to emergency notification tests from work so it doesn't bother me.

Wow. Seems it worked very well. Hope we will never need it. But I appreciate warnings. Was at a birthday dinner last week and got an alert that the power might be out at our house. My husband was worried about one of his tanks flooding, so he rushed home. Our older dog was stuck behind the sofa, the driveway was blocked by half a tree broken off and power out for 6 hours after. So if something big is happening, I would appreciate the heads up.

Elmer I have do not disturb on my phone that only allows SO to be able to call me. All other notifications are supposed to be disabled but apparently it did not apply to that alert. I use my phone as my alarm clock and keep it near me as SO is a truck driver and I want him to be able to call me if something happens while he is on the road.

Amber alerts sent to my phone also get through,so I suppose the do not disturb feature doesn't affect such things.

Yes. Everyone in my family and the few friends I've spoken to today did. I don't see why there is so much discussion about a test. Back in the day we had fire stations setting off sirens to test emergency systems. We had television alerts and tests during the era of everyone watching TV regularly. This is a simply more modern reliable way to alert people. I am thankful for the technology.

I did receive it. It's a misnomer. It's not from the presidential office (thank goodness). This message system comes from FEMA and is a part of the emergency broadcasting system.

Both phones in our house got the alert. I am having trouble figuring out why anyone is upset about an emergency alert system test. This just isn't a political thing, this is a FEMA thing. If you didn't want to hear it, you could have turned off your phone. I feel outrage about a lot of things these days, but this isn't one of them.

Not that I know of. I was photographing gravestones yesterday afternoon, my phone in the car, but there's nothing on my phone to indicate I got a text or a call.

It was a FEMA alert test of the highest level. That is what a ‘test’ is supposed to be...a test to help evaluate how the notification systems are working. So please don’t get bent out of shape if you did/did not receive an alert.

If it was a true emergency, wouldn’t you want to get one? Wouldn’t you want to be assured the nationwide system worked? I’m sure the bean-counters are already studying the locations that did not get pinged.

It was simply a test to see how well the emergency notification system worked. Not all carriers are functional with the system and not all phones are (non-WEA compatible). And an alert of whatever kind (FEMA, Amber, etc.) leaves no visible trace on your phone. - no message, no missed call. If you were away from your phone or had it turned off or silenced and you missed the alert, there would be no way for you to know it had occurred.

DW got the notification. I wasn't near my phone to hear if it rang, but no message was left.

Neither me or my dh got it - we both were in different places so not sure if it was our carrier or what caused us not to get it. But I would want to get a real alert if it was ever sent out so I was not happy about not getting the test.

We both have received it. Luckily it was silent. I turned off the noise for those types of alerts after being startled badly by Amber alerts. So loud!

I just read somewhere that not everyone was meant to receive the alerts, so I guess you shouldn’t worry if you did not receive one.

I turned off the sound on alerts after being badly startled also, but it was on my screen the next time I opened my phone. Needed to be cleared before I could go on.

I'm curious just what kind of emergency people think this will be necessary for everyone all over the country with a cell phone to receive at the same time? Nuclear attack? If it hits LA, does NY need to hear about it via alert or wouldn't our regular methods be sufficient. Like what are people going to do, start building a bomb shelter after they hear an alert? It's crazy.

I'd like to know exactly WHAT we would be alerted TO -- on a national scale.

I was on Maui when the false alarm went out about 'incoming' from North Korea. Yeah? And? Time to 'duck and cover'? The entire nation would duck and cover? THAT 'alert' helped no one and injured many.
