Cape style home Curb appeal needed, located in New England
Comments (5)Good morning Marissa, Your property has a lot of potential. There are several projects that can add to the beauty and functionality of the property. I would advise spreading the projects over 2-3 years, depending on your available funds. Have you considered budgets for the possible improvements? If you are able to do so, post measurements of your property, including boundaries, structures, doors, stoops, existing patios, large trees, and basement windows. If you do this, I and others will be able to help create possible design layouts....See MoreTaking on this property, need to make it curb appealing overwhelmed
Comments (34)Use Romabio paint whether the stone is real or not. If you are leaving the siding white, paint the stone white too. There is no benefit style-wise to removing the stone verus painting it. The beige colours don't look good with your gray roof, which is staying. Looking closer at the stone, to me it looks like cultured stone. We used to call it angelstone, maybe that is a brand name. Popular in the 1950's. Nothing special. I'd paint it white and go for a cottage look. I think the house would look very cute in all-white, with a blue front door. Add another touch of blue when you put if up for sale, with some blue flowers, or white flowers in a pot painted the same blue. https://www.addicted2decorating.com/painted-stone-exteriors.html I would not add a porch to this house. And no overhang since the front door is already recessed....See MoreHelp us give our ugly investment property some curb appeal
Comments (17)First off, thank you all for the quick and detailed responses. I already have so much to think about and love your suggestions. Here is a little more info on our intentions, budget, etc. This is an upstairs/downstairs set up with 2 beds and 1 bath in each unit. We plan on renting out both units long term after renovating them both. So although this isn't a house we will live in, it is something we will regularly see and want it to stand out as a beautiful property. Since they will be rentals, we are required to provide at least 1 parking spot for each unit off street. My thoughts were to utilized the minimum amount of the front for this and use the rest for grass/land scaping in the shape of a T, across the full front of the house, with a strip in the middle going to the street. Budget wise we are pretty flexible because I am skilled in most trades and can do everything myself or with the help of friends. I love the idea of a porch on the front and will be leveling off the lot as soon as we take possession. I think these two are my best options moving forward. Knowing that I need to keep spaces for two vehicles, can anyone suggest a great layout for the front grass/walkway etc? Thank you!!...See MoreHow to add more curb appeal to our new construction?
Comments (21)The majority here frown upon a garage in front of a home. I really hate it when the snark comes out with the old ”house attached to the garage” line is thrown out there, Its not low key passive agressive, we all get it. Im not sure anybody would choose to have their garage as the prime feature of their home. There are many reasons why people have this style home, first is $$ and second is lot size. Having said that, like mark said, buy the nicest garage door you can find. I think you need to wait until your home is finished for real useful advice. Congrats on your new home, may the build be uneventful....See MoreLion Windows and Doors
