Mixing stainless steel and black/white appliances. Yes or Not?
Comments (31)I have a small galley-type kitchen...The house is old...I replaced with white kitchenaid dishwasher yrs ago and a white maytag with black top stove. Our frig is old and so this was the next appliance to replace. It was white also. However, I hated this big white side-by-side Sears Frig. I didn't want to buy stainless steel...thought it would stick out like a big bullet in my galley kitchen. Didn't want white either...too blah and hard to clean. So, I bought a pretty black stainless steel (sorta muted black on front) Whirlpool french door-type frig...I LOVE IT..it's the kind that doesn't show fingerprints...So, now....I wonder what color to paint my old oak cabinets with this old, but nice beigy, salmon color corian countertop...Anybody want to take a stab at this???? I can't replace the white other appliances...they are too new...but the black top stove does look nice with the frig...the dishwasher is across the aisle from them in white......See MoreI am looking for a black stainless range hood to match my appliances
Comments (3)I was having the same issue so here’s what I did...... I got a stainless steel sink, stainless steel pulls and knobs and then went with a stainless steel hood (with all my appliances black stainless) It was more important to me to have a great working hood than one that didn’t work as well but was the right color. Also, black stainless can be different depending on manufacturer and I didn’t really want that either....See MoreBosch black vs stainless cooktop - easy to clean? goes w/stainless?
Comments (5)I want a gas cooktop (not induction), so the black would be a bit larger with the grates than a flat induction top. Here is a photo from Bosch of the gas cooktop with an oven below it. The photo has a black stainless steel oven - my question is what would it look like as a regular stainless steel oven. (I realize that the colors of the cabinets, countertop, and backsplash would influence how well it would go together - these details are not yet determined.) @User - thank you for the photo - even though induction tops are smooth, it is useful. I like the installation in the Bosch picture (below) with the countertop dividing the cooktop and oven (instead of a wider wood panel. @cefi - thank you for the photo. Yours and Suzanne's both suggest that the black glass oven door would resonate with the black cooktop, to make create some resonance (I think??). @Shannon_WI - I don't have space for 36". I realize that a wall oven under the counter is low, but this one (Bosch photo) seems a little hither than most. I did find out the Bosch cooktop is porcelain, so it would be much easier to clean than stainless steel cooktops (or range tops). All the gas ranges and cooktops seem to be stainless steel - yes, they look nice - but there are many comments about how hard they are to clean, and they scratch, which is why I am hoping for a porcelain top under the burners. If I can't make it work with Bosch (cooktop and oven), then KitchenAid would be the other option (slide-in range) as it is stainless with a porcelain top, but everything else would be Bosch....See MoreKitchen Facelift -- Stainless or Black Stainless Appliances
Comments (12)Thanks, Boxerpal! Interesting you shared the link to LilyAnnCabinets. They are actually located about 30 minutes from me here in Michigan. I saw the same cherry cabinets image on their Facebook page and contacted them last week as i really love their design and the backsplash tile that was used. I did replace my appliances with SS - only have have arrived (cooktop) and double wall-oven combo. I'm still trying to get used to the SS appearance - and I'm not loving the fingerprints on the fingershield / resistant finish...lol. Dishwasher is scheduled for delivery today and the refrigerator mid-summer. I will upload some more pictures of the desk space I plan to remove to create a new coffee & cocktails beverage center. and my personal vision board. I'm trying to decide between a soft white cabinet & the new Bonsai. I love the Bonsai - but not sure if I can commit to the color or rather pick it up in the space through accents (chairs, curtains, etc.). The entire process is overwhelming! My other dilemma -- my built in desk is 21" deep and new cabinets are standard 24" - which will definitely encroach on my kitchen space. Also, beverage fridges are also standard 24" - but thinking of recessing it in the wall. Also, because it's only 72-74" max in width to work with, I'm thinking i want a small compact beverage cooler. 18X21 would be ideal -- but haven't been able to find it. I also need to think about cabinet layout and where to put the plumbing / sink for the beverage station. I was thinking of offsetting it to the left side to give me more continuous counter space. Welcome any additional thoughts!...See MoreSina Sadeddin Architectural Design
