help with backsplash around windows
Comments (10)luckily the tile I fell in love with had a moulding piece to match! We used it to surround the opening. the inside ledge area is just the window casing (and painted white like the rest of our casings and trim in the house). here's a couple of pics of it being installed (the best close up shot I have right now on my computer) and a view from the family room. HTH!...See MoreBacksplash around window help (already grouted!)
Comments (11)thank you all for your kind and honest comments. i feel much better about it after reading your comments :) pricklypearcactus, the tiles are all daltile. I used the 3x6 contempo white from their marble collection, and the small square ones are the mosaic contempo white from their Stone a la mode collection. the 3x6 do not have much color variation in the stone - just a very light grey veining - which is what I wanted because it's a big kitchen. that's also why we didn't go with a gray grout. the kitchen kind of has a lot of things going on in it and i wanted the backsplash to look pretty, but also not make a loud statement. Here is the view of the kitchen before they put in lights and granite. unfortunately, brickton, what you said is probably EXACTLY what i was thinking but couldnt articulate. the clipped corners were the first thing i noticed i didn't like. What do you think about removing the 3x6 around the window and replacing with just the mosaics (and not trying to "frame" the window)? I'm unsure how clean/straight of a cut our tile guy can do. It is kind of starting to grow on me, I think just because I wanted to close on this house like a month ago! Comments (16)Thanks everyone for your responses. Right now, there is one row of cut-in-half 4"x4" ceramic tile and 4 rows of glass tile. That will then be topped with more ceramic tile. So yes, itÂs glass. :-) HereÂs a close up. Does that help? (You can't tell in the photo, but the granite is 'chestnut' and the rust/burgundy tiles pull out the chestnut color in the granite.) And nope, Edlakin, I donÂt believe there are glass mosaic bullnose tiles. My original thought was to run a strip of ceramic bullnose up to the window sill to frame in the left side of backsplash. ThatÂs why I asked the granite fabricators to extend the counter a little bit beyond the sill. I guess I didnÂt make that clear to DH beforehand. And I guess I should have asked here before I made the tile decisions! Remodelfla, to the left of the stove is a wall. No more counter space. On the to-do list is to add an over the range microwave. We deliberated long and hard about whether or not to put tile behind the stove, up to the microwave. The cons were that the glass tile wouldnÂt be seen at all. And since the stove is free standing, you can see the wall behind it. I didnÂt want to just do a section of tile above with painted wall below, and I didnÂt want to tile from the floor to the microwave either. I couldnÂt think of an easy compromise, so we just stopped at the window. HereÂs a photo of the full wall. (I really hope the colors look better on your monitor than they do on mine!) The funny thing is, Bill and Igloochic, I never thought my arrangement was off balance! Now that I look at my photo, I can see what youÂre talking about. I guess in real life, there are enough other things going on that I donÂt focus in on the asymmetry. The whole wall is asymmetrical! Does seeing the whole wall help? Unfortunately, the tile edge is not the same color as the tile. I guess IÂll have to talk DH into the bullnose then. Monkeyjac, I canÂt tell for sure, but it looks like your tile edges are the same as the front. It looks good in the picture. Thank you all for your thoughtful replies!...See MoreBacksplash wrapping question - updated with photos
Comments (12)Hi daki - the mix I posted was actually a creme/white - maybe I should look for a green mix now!! The nice thing about the bigger tile is that it would look more like a wall of glass - I am just thinking now that I might see a wall of grout on my 1/2 by 1 inch glass mosaic. I was going to use a grey grout, but even so - and would all that grout be hard to clean behind the stove? I am glad that you dont think the grey would be too dark with the dark cabinets - I have a friend who is afraid it will be too dark and she is the one who is pushing 3 by 8 white subway tile as more neutral on resale....See MoreTherese R
