We are getting ready for a big kitchen renovation and I wanted to get some input and info on range hoods. We do not have a vent now, but will be upgrading all appliances and cabinets and moving the position of the stove as well. The stove will be under a cabinet and we're looking at undercabinet hoods that could vent through the cabinet into a duct in the ceiling and then outside. This is all new to us and we're wondering if 12 feet is too long for a duct to pull the air out effectively. If not, can anyone recommend any particular specs in terms of CFM's or other specs to make sure we're looking for the best model to get air through the duct? We don't want a lot of noise, but also don't want to risk grease, and heat/,moisture impact on new white shaker cabinets either.

It seems like a ducted system is also preferable, but has anyone had luck with a recirculating system that hasn't affected their cabinets?

Thanks for any input!
