Mixing light fixture finishes

I have an open concept living/dining/kitchen area. The ceiling fan is brushed nickel, we'll have potlights in the kitchen area. Other lights in the house are brushed nickel. My partner wants ORB pendants over the kitchen island. Would it be OK to mix the ORB with the brushed nickel?

@Kristin, no. However the ceiling fan has black blades which might help it mix a bit better.

What's your decor style? There are several I see on the lampsplus.com site that would work. Just use their 'Narrow Results' menu to make searching easier. If you haven't settled into the house yet, a light hanging in mid-space is going to stand out like a sore thumb. It may help to just finish moving in, get your furniture in place, then choose your dining light. Here is a link that might be useful: one example

Oh, for heaven's sake! Are you trying to make your kitchen blah? I got the point of the gray floor rather than the orange, but why not get the fun light fixture??? This last one is so COOL!! My only question is whether it'll give you enough light. Though I guess the mixed finishes are somewhat akin to what one of my art friends said about my '90's hair color, "I figured it had to be natural because it was so weird." Putting the first two together would look acquired rather than chosen together, though I still think they could work. But I LOVE the third one and so do you!!! How much does it cost? More than $1/day for a year? Because I'd pay that for a year just to be amused by them, and if they were too much after they could always be replaced...

Thanks enduring! I appreciate the feedback and advice! I had a conversation with someone the other day who told me a story about a woman who changed her front doorknob to oil rubbed bronze.... which led to a new hallway chandelier... which led to new dining room set... which led to new kitchen fixtures and appliances... which led to new counters... and then the bathrooms... and on and on and on. In the end her new doorknob led to a 50k home renovation! After hearing that I decided to stay with brushed nickel in our guest bathroom (whrre the tub is), and ALL the metal trims will be brushed nickel. I am going to use ORB for our master bathroom vanity faucets, lights, and towelbar because the vanity is actually in a separate room from the shower and toilet, separated by a pocket door. The shower and toilet have chrome trims but you never really look at them at the same time as the vanity area. I'll post some pics when its done. Our guest bath tub was just installed and seems to exactly match the brushed nickel faucet we picked out.

What sort of ORB fixtures? ORB with glass? Lots of metal or something like a lantern?

And what kind of ORB? All ORB finishes are not the same, and aren't all good.

Also, do you have a plan of the area, showing the location of the ceiling fan, island pendants, and any other ceiling fixtures, that you could post?

I would not do *just* the pendants in ORB. I like mixing finishes, but with just those being different, I think it may look like a mistake rather than a style choice. Could the kitchen pulls also be ORB?

Here's the pendant we're thinking of and the current ceiling fan. I don't have a diagram handy but the pendants will be about 8 feet away from the ceiling fan. In the open area, we'll only have potlights. A connecting hallway has brushed nickel light fixtures.

I think they should work well together. They're both more modern in style, and the shiny clear glass works with the shiny metal of the ceiling fan.

I tend to like the look of mixed metals in a room or in a larger open-plan space. It makes a home look much more thoughtfully assembled, as if it had been collected over time, rather than as if everything came from the same place at the same time in a big box (or from a big box lol) : ) . Much like the current fashion of not having a matching bedroom furniture suite.
