I like Rejuvenation in general, and those fixtures, in particular...a lot.

They come in 12 finishes --the one you picked would be great but you could mix it up more with one of the other finishes too.

They are unexpected and I love that! Really nice looking. I say go for it.

Thanks everyone. We're not doing a period kitchen unless I decide I can't live without the boomerang Formica. But adding a little to reflect the period of the home as well as the low ceilings seems sort of fun. And I can't do original vintage fixtures thanks to CA's Title 24 (unless I swap them out after inspection but I don't actually mind lowering my electric bill). Rejuvenation (and Schoolhouse Electric) are pretty good about fluorescentifying any fixture that can take it.

But will polished chrome show dust more than brushed nickel? I really don't plan on dusting very much.

Probably. Get a string style dust mop with a long, flexible pole and save it for dusting high when it starts to bother you. Williams Sonoma used to have a great, dark blue, heart shaped one. Useless for floors, but really fluffy and nice for swatting the rafters.

I think the coordinating bases with differing metals will actually give a kind of found treasure look to your lighting--if anyone stops to notice. ;)

I have nothing against mis-matched lighting, or against matching lighting for that matter. And those fixtures are definitely cool!

But I wouldn't put those two in the same room in different finishes. Why not? Because the styles do match -- really closely. If the styles were different, different finishes wouldn't bother me. Or finishes that matched each other but nothing else? -- Also not a problem. In other words, the fixtures should either match, or they shouldn't. You're in between...

So no shiny paired with matte? A helpful Rejuvenation CS rep says the brushed aluminum is pretty close to the brushed nickel. And to see the base of the fixture, you won't be close...hrmm. Didn't they think people would try to match these items?

And then there's THIS fixture, which does have the same finish choices as the little can lights, and can be mounted shorter than the one in this picture, but it's a bit more of a statement. We were after more a modest space age touch than a commitment to the SPACE AGE. But this has always been a favorite...

Yes I do love it but it's too MUCH for my traditional blah small kitchen. (It's also not quite as good for all-around light production.)

I hear you. There's a difference between a fixture in the abstract and one in your specific environment. I definitely like the first ones and I like this last one. The one in the middle. . . not so much.

BTW, please stop pooh poohing your kitchen-to-be! From everything I've heard so far, it sounds like it's going to be wonderful! It doesn't sound like it's going to be dull to me at all. Rather, sounds like your base elements will provide an excellent backdrop for all kinds of colorful, funky accessories and decorating touches. Go for it!

Oh, for heaven's sake! Are you trying to make your kitchen blah? I got the point of the gray floor rather than the orange, but why not get the fun light fixture??? This last one is so COOL!! My only question is whether it'll give you enough light.

Though I guess the mixed finishes are somewhat akin to what one of my art friends said about my '90's hair color, "I figured it had to be natural because it was so weird." Putting the first two together would look acquired rather than chosen together, though I still think they could work.

But I LOVE the third one and so do you!!!

How much does it cost? More than $1/day for a year? Because I'd pay that for a year just to be amused by them, and if they were too much after they could always be replaced...

The last one just doesn't work. It's too dangly. (I'll have cabinetry up to the ceiling and it's a little too busy already.) The style is too pronounced. (The cabinets are far too traditional looking to have flying saucers floating between them.) And as an uplight, it's probably not bright enough.

The second fixture is more of a nonentity. (And I wouldn't get it in the gold color!) Sort of a very slight upgrade from this type of thing:

Martha, I only mean it SOUNDS dull when I actually write things down--grey this, metal that, with some gray thrown in for spice. :) I don't doubt it'll be a mess of colors when I'm done! I even have a spot for a small quilt...muhahaha!

Okay! That's what I want to hear! (I couldn't imagine you doing a "dull" kitchen, anyway!) As for the quilt. . . no you didn't miss it. By the time the layout was completed and the quilt was framed, it was way too big to fit int the room! Sigh.

Did you try the ceiling? Hmmm? Sometimes I think there never was a quilt!
