How has the flavor of your figs been this year?

Here is the list, in descending order, of my best to worst tasting figs for the 2018 season, with a short comment by each variety. Some trees are older than others, which I not factoring in, nor the earliness or lateness of ripening, although I strive to grow only the earliest ripening varieties because of my short season. Every variety has ripened at least it's first fig by now. Some are finished already, essentially no more figs on them.

1. Beers Black - exceptional fig taste, not overly sweet, abundant crop

2. Little Ruby - earliest ripening, started July 28, rich, Fig Newton tast, very small fig, ping pong sized, abundant crop

3. Little Miss Figgy - rich fig taste, small crop

4. Petite Nigra - rich taste, abundant crop

5. Violette de Bordeaux - very much like #4 in taste and crop rate

6. Magnolia - rich, taste, but very watery, moderate crop, figs the size of tennis balls.

7. LSU Gold - very sweet, mild taste, beautiful gold color, moderate crop

8. Green Ischia - very much like LSU Gold in taste, but even milder flavored than LSU Gold, moderate crop

9. Black Spanish Mission - fair flavor, flavor improves greatly when left to be almost over-ripe, so soft and fragile at this point, though, super abundant crop, bad splitter

10. Brown Turkey - huge, billiard ball sized fruit, almost bland and watery, small crop, bad splitter

11. Conadria - bland but sweet taste, big fruit, abundant crop

12. White Marseilles - sweet but bland fruit, poor crop

13. Olympia - bland, almost lemony taste, not sweet, good crop

14. Panache - bland taste, good crop

15. Madeleine des Deux Saisons - bland but interesting taste, fair crop

16. Yellow Long Neck - bland taste, abundant crop, but lots of fruit drop, about 1/3 drop so far
