Distance from cabinets to island too far ?
Comments (3)Do you have an overhead view? Do I see a faucet in front of your cooktop? I'm confused. The space between your fridge and island is tight....See Morefinal layout?? I'd appreciate your input!
Comments (9)I think I wasn't clear. In a 30" corner cabinet, the max thing that can fit is normally a bit over 8" wide if frameless, - but it will be less because of the range, something like 6-6 1/2". In a 36" corner cabinet, the max size item is around 16 1/2", but because of the range, it will be more like 12-13". You'll have to add the depth of the range bump out and oven handles to consider on how you kinda have to weave in there beside the range and potentially hot ovens to move stuff into or out of the corner cabinet. And also consider the added reach you'll need because you can't be right in front of the corner cabinet door - not enough room for a body to fit there. The same reason is why you won't be able to prep in that corner (altho you can store some prepped stuff there) and why you won't be able to reach the back of the upper cabinets in that corner....See MoreMain sink across island from cooktop- too far away???
Comments (9)Refrigerator position... This one will have to be a personal preference choice... The refrigerator currently is in an ideal location for DR access...more milk, condiments, etc....as well as close by for putting away leftovers, those condiments, etc. It's also not a bad location for the island or Breakfast Nook seating. Yes, it's a longer walk from the FR for someone who wants a snack. If you switch w/the Ovens, it will mean a long walk from the DR...it will also be a longer walk from the cooktop & sink (for putting away those leftovers, etc.) A switch will also mean eliminating the "baking center" concept...unless you move the cooktop down to compensate. You might consider putting in a Beverage Cooler (undercounter refrigerator) in the upper right corner of the Breakfast Nook...it would solve both problems! If the uncercounter refrigerator doesn't appeal to you or won't work for whatever reason, then ask yourself... When do you use the refrigerator more...at meal & cleanup time or for snacks? Do you want a "baking center"? Your answers to these questions will show you where the refrigerator is best placed for you! Good luck!...See Morekitchen plan - too far from fridge to range?
Comments (15)Depends on how you cook but I'd prefer to have the sink close to the fridge so don't mind your distances and DEFINITELY would want the sink near the range - so would not like sailorman's layout. I have 5 feet between sink and stove and a straight shot of counter (prep space) between and it is almost too much - especially when cleaning the stove. (I'm not complaining about the prep space, don't get me wrong ... esp. since prep space is what we craved in our before model). Don't want to have to walk clear across fridge from stove to sink. That said, I like rhome's idea of bringing the stove closer to the sink in the diagonal wall in your layout especially because it will let you vent the stove out the house. That's a good thing. If your pantries are big enough you may very well be able to get away without any uppers. And with some open shelving you may not even feel too much of a pinch. Check out Pirula's and Rococogurl's kitchens in the Finished Kitchens Blog for a couple of instances showing such an implementation. There are others but I don't recall them now....See Morelaura_04
