what do you keep in your linen closet...& how do you organize it?
Comments (31)You could actually do a couple different things. You could have one rod and use hangers. You would have to fold them a bit to fit on the hanger and not drag on the floor, but that's usually how they come from the cleaners. For heavy cloths, use two hangers together for added strength. You could also hang multiple rods at slightly different heights and depths. If you have a walk in closet this works great, but will still work with a reach in. Hang the highest rod the farthest back, then one a bit lower and closer and even a third lower and closer than the second. Then you can hang the cloths right on the rod instead of on a hanger. I like the rod because of it's larger diameter it doesn't leave creases in the cloths. You can also overlap them on these rods. For optimum use of space, you'd need to use multiple rods and overlap. Is that totally confusing?!...See MoreWhite Woodwork - How Do You Keep It Clean?
Comments (9)The first couple times I cleaned my white baseboard in the bedroom I found out it's not a good idea really to use a wet or even damp rag before dusting them well. Water or other liquid cleaner alone makes the dirt "stick", and my main problem was the caulking used to seal the baseboard along the top and along the top of the rounded toe board(forget the proper term). The caulking wasn't as washable as it was reported to be. Now much of it has a gray cast. ugh. and anything too strong dissolves it. Pinesol is what I use to wipe the wooden trim, cleans well....See MoreHow do you clean your hardwood kitchen floors? (X-posted on cleaning)
Comments (6)My hardwood floors are probably filthy, but look really good. I have them throughout the first floor. I sweep them daily, and run the occasional Swiffer WetJet on the kitchen portion of the floor in front of the sink, dishwasher and stove. I have tried a lot of things when mopping, and found that I prefer to use hot, HOT water and a damp rag mop once a month to get them really clean. I often have to refill the water, as it is black during this cleaning. Should probably do it more often, but I don't have the time....See MoreHow do you keep the floor behind a free standing tub clean?
Comments (8)Jan has it correct. Do not put anything in your home unless it has some practical use or it looks beautiful. What happens is that people take a beautiful, practical item and try to place it everywhere. Doesn't work. The beauty of a free-standing tub is that it is free-standing. They look gorgeous sitting in the center of a huge bathroom. They are neither practical or nice-looking shoved up against a wall. it is not just the fact that it is very difficult to clean it.....it is the fact that one looks at it and thinks.....gee, I wonder how often that is cleaned? And it is just disconcerting when you try to fit a square peg in a round hole. Something is offsetting about it. Here is another consideration: no place to put soap, towels, etc. You have to add a stand, which is another piece or clutter and something to clean. In a few years, I can guarantee you, people will be ripping out these "oh so awful free-standing tubs from the 2010's. Having said that, you are the homeowner. if you want to put a free-standing tub anywhere and you like it, that is your choice. Just showing you the drawbacks. So, I would ask myself these questions: Why do I want a free-standing tub? What are the benefits and the drawbacks of adding one? Only you can say if the benefits for you outweigh the downsides. Much success to you!...See Morerhizo_1 (North AL) zone 7
