Picking hardware for existing cabinets

Hi,

I am having a difficult time deciding on modern cabinet hardware for our painted traditional cabinets (we cannot afford to upgrade). I like this style or something similiar (see attached)

but can't see to decide how long they should be for vertical door vs. drawer etc. Or if I should incorporate knobs?! Originally I like the full length look but budget is prohibiting that. Backsplash will be a slab of quartz-marble look.

Please help!

I like a mixed look, knobs on uppers and pulls on lowers, or a combo of them. If you’re replacing all of them budget shouldn’t be too big an issue, there are always deals to be had. Start scouring the sites, I used build.com and found them to be very reasonable...$3-10 depending on how large. I used decorative (appliance look) pulls too, for something more simple like the bar pulls you have posted you should be able to find some for a very reasonable price.

I found that budget knobs and handles are similarly priced. I went with a 5" handle on mine, as that was easier for my hand to fit into than the smaller ones. I'm putting it on even the larger drawers. Will see how that feels once we use them. You can find good prices on amazon, my knobs and others. https://www.myknobs.com/lip61200sca.html

I highly second the "get one of each and see how they both feel and look in person" suggestions. The ones I loved the look of felt horrible and didn't look right held up against the cabinets at all. One of the other ones I liked alot felt great and looked great with the cabinets. It is somewhat of a combination between your tapered and your square edge...but with a fuller "foot". I agree with the finish but wouldn't get knobs. I have knobs on one of my vanity's and it drives me crazy. The cord on the hairdryer gets caught on it constantly. It also is the perfect height to get stuck on belt loops. Sounds dumb bit it happens more than you'd think! I have bin or cup pulls on my drawers in the kitchen & I like them. I'd do a smooth pull in the bathroom. Not sure if a bin pull would look right in a bathroom.

Hi Deepa, I have been advising clients over the last year or so to avoid oil-rubbed bronze. I believe it's trending out. I'd surely avoid bronze for large-scale installations like door knobs, which tend to stay in place for many years. It's hard to go wrong with silver pulls, they tend to be the most timeless. If you prefer the drama of a dark fixture, I would look for something in black instead. That said, I often mix metal colors within a given room. For example, you could use mostly silver, with a couple touches of gold (or the reverse). Sometimes a room that's entirely silver looks too 'cold' and an all-gold room can look too fussy, so mixing gives balance. In the room below, the couch/chaise legs and overhead light are silver; everything else is gold.

@patricia - The customer pics I showed are ones that were posted by customers who bought the vanities and put them up in the reviews. On a couple of them, there is a stark color difference between what is show as stock photo on the retail site vs what the customers receive. There is already a long master bath with double sinks and this is not that. This bathroom will be used by kids and personally, I have found there to be an advantage to having two sinks for kids to get ready for school! I have also posted more pics of the bathroom included the tile coloring in case any folks have a new opinion on the vanity color. Thanks!

I was originally looking at 30” pulls for uppers so it was cost prohibitive. Those are around $50 each.

I would search on Houzz or maybe Pinterest pulls, knobs or both and see what you love. Do you like a combination or all pulls. I am partial for my space to all pulls. And yes budget was a constraint for us too. But keep in mind by keeping your old cabinets you have saved some money. Splurge on some nice pulls to make the kitchen the space you really want.

That handle is very nice but I feel like it is too square for your cabinets... I understand you want modern but the cabinets are traditional no matter what you do so try to find an in between...

Something like these would be nice...

i would do pulls on drawers and knobs on doors... all pulls will be visual overload, you have a lot of drawers/doors.

just do regular sized pulls. long pulls will look out of place on your cabs. agree with debbi washburn, you have traditional cabs, get a traditional or transitional hardware. if you go modern it just won't look "right".
