Looks almost like a chair in "Antique Trader" price book, chair is called Missionstyle (Arts & Crafts movement) book is from 2010 & price listed was $570. That is a very nice chair & I would fix it properly. Not saying your chair is worth that much, you need to clean it up, see if it's oak. Go to library & look in Antique furniture book to see what seat looked like. AS to age I'm sure someone can help on that but I sat on 1 similar to that in my granpa's ins. office 70 yrs ago, seat was dark brown leather, I felt very important , suppose that is why I remember it so well.& I think it had been there a long time. book mentions 1 from 1900 as Mission. The piece under the arms that curves out I haven't seen before. Will be very nice chair when cleaned up!

That being said, I finally talked to my contractor today and while we could probably do the bigger plan, it is going to be much more difficult to add on the bedroom wing to the exisiting house. So, I'm rethinking my slightly smaller plan, which is also very cute, but a little more compact. That being said, if anyone can use any ideas from this bigger plan, please feel free to do so! It's a lovely plan, but I've been rethinking the size...and the upkeep. Plus, a smaller/less expensive home would mean more money and energy for my gardens! LOL Summerfield- You are amazing and I NEVER would have gotten this far, without all your help. You are a wonderful person and I want you to know how much I appreciate your patience, ideas and talent. My contractor is completely smitten with your software and wants to know when/if it will be available, to the public :)

Great deal on the chair! I sew and upholster for many years for myself, and professionally I sell office furniture, for way too many years - The chair looks as though it has a molded plastic shell back and maybe the seat as well - difficult to see in the pic. Do not try to pop off that molded plastic to replace the fabric. It is injected molded at the factory and is not meant to be separated from the cushions. When something happens to the fabric on chairs manufactured like that, the entire unit (complete back / complete seat) is replaced. Make a pretty skirt & slip covered back if you really want to change the fabric. You got a great deal on the chair & it will be very functional & comfortable to use sewing- I just don't want you to ruin it trying to recover it if that's where you were headed.

I think you have to be really careful with outdoor chairs since many of those shown are metal. Unless the cushions are extremely soft and thick, that metal is too hard on old bones for extended period of time. I have Braxton Culler chairs in my kitchen because they were the most comfortable I found on my trip to NC. Even the high end dining chairs like Baker were uncomfortable to me to sit in for a long period. The chair in the link below is Braxton Culler, which, I'll admit, is not cheap (I'm not sure of the cost but their products are generally not inexpensive), but since she'll need only one, it may be doable.
