Silestone quartz countertops - polished vs suede finish

Hi,

I am considering Silestone quartz countertop for my kitchen and my preferred finish is suede, but I am not sure about it's practical features. Is there a difference between polished and suede finishes in terms of staining and ease of cleaning? Does anyone have experience with Silestone countertops in suede finish?

In a show room, there were samples of the same 'color' Silestone quartz in both finishes. The matte was ingrained with smudges and dirt. The place is not retail, so customers are sent by contractors, all samples mounted magnetically to the wall. No mauling by casual browsers. Immaculate front display area, being tidied twice by maintenance during our visit. Still, that matte piece really made my choice easier. The polished in my selection was not glaringly shiny.

Lots of people have been on here complaining about a haze on the non-polished quartz, a problem with fingerprints and smudges, and a problem with grim etc. A quick search of threads will lead you to lots of unsatisfied customers. I'd stear clear.

I wasn't a fan of suede Silestone until I saw it in a customer's home. She's loved it for years and it looked great.

We have polished Organic White countertops. We also get subtle metal marks that won't come out. These counters are just a few months old. No one else would notice it, but I certainly do. I would recommend getting a sample of the quartz you are considering and testing it yourself. Maybe we're just unlucky? Although, the number of websites that say "quartz doesn't stain" seem to be equalled by the number of websites that say "here's how to get stains out of your quartz". We haven't tried Magic Eraser and it is somewhat discouraged since it is abrasive, but we may try that next.

@Beth Would you mind posting photos of your completed kitchen? The marble slab photo you posted above in this thread is GORGEOUS! I’ve been a “stalker” on Houzz now for awhile - you give some of the best advice I’ve read on here - especially when someone desperately needs help trying to pull elements together (many times bc some element has not turned out to be exactly what the person was expecting - and he/she is GREATLY disappointed). You consistently present great ideas - and, obviously, spend a lot of time helping people out. You are my favorite contributor! Hi! All of your comments are helpful. We are currently shopping for a kitchen countertop and I'm ready to pull my hair out! Right now, there are 11 samples of quartz countertops in our kitchen. We really like a Caesarstone rough matte 'Airy Concrete' that seems to be standing up to our testing so far, but I'm not sure after reading many negative comments about matte surfaces on various internet sites. We also really like a polished quartz from European Aleanza "upper west side". Since we are getting high gloss white cabinets, were thinking of going with a more matte surface. Now I'm not sure. We really want low maintenance. We visited a European Aleanza showroom here in NJ, and it looks really nice. Anyone familiar with this company?

Thanks everyone for taking time to share your experience and pics. We are just about to order charcoal soapstone Silestone... dithering on gloss vs. suede. We are very messy and although I love the matte look... thinking polish is more sensible for us. We are doing white perimeter cabinets (BM Swiss coffee) with a dark stained island/Silestone White Storm counter for that. Hmmm... I think White Storm is available as Polished finish only. Do you think the perimeter and island countertops be the same finish? (either matte or polish?)

Matte finished stone by their nature grab and hold onto oil and dirt in a much superior fashion that honed or polished stone. Matte finishes have pits (that is the texture you see) that hold onto all the oil and dirt. Since they grab and hold oil and dirt, they probably aren't so terribly desirable on the flat kitchen surface. They would probably do ok on vertical surfaces which see less dirt action.

We originally picked the matte or suede finish from the samples. Then we went to the warehouse and saw entire slabs in both finishes. Hands down, we changed to polished. The suede looked dull. The micro "bumps" caught dust. Installed polished and happy we did.

I just saw a sample kitchen using the suede finish in Lagoon. It was gorgeous & felt

wonderful. I was instantly sold on it.

Installed kitchen counter top suede finish quartz. Water stains show but do wipe off. I have some ring stain mark rom wine bbottle that will not come out. Can only see with direct lighting though. I would not purchase again. My wife loves the look.

I have polished Silestone Quartz counters and love it❣️So easy to clean. I have read lots of mixed reviews regarding the suede finish.

To me the polished shows every smudge and finger print. The suede doesn't show fingerprints at all. Also, it looks whiter to me with the Suede. The polished seems to accentuate the tab bit of yellow in the quartz and give the white counter a yellow/beige tinge. Since, we went with white cabinets in a kitchen with southeast facing light (bright), we went with the suede finish. The suede white color goes nicer with our white cabinets, you don't have glare from the sun like you do with polished, and it is easier to keep looking clean b/c it doesn't show smudges or fingerprints.

Have you folks here used any sealers on matte/suede Silestone? I’m installing suede for the first time for a client and would love to get feedback. I can’t find any guidance on their website for the sealers, for the matte.

Ive had suede silestone countertops for 5 years and I love them. No staining and easy to clean. I think it just comes down to personal preference of the look that you like.
