Caesarstone vs Silestone vs Cambria vs Zodiaq quartz countertop?
Comments (43)We have polished Organic White countertops. We also get subtle metal marks that won't come out. These counters are just a few months old. No one else would notice it, but I certainly do. I would recommend getting a sample of the quartz you are considering and testing it yourself. Maybe we're just unlucky? Although, the number of websites that say "quartz doesn't stain" seem to be equalled by the number of websites that say "here's how to get stains out of your quartz". We haven't tried Magic Eraser and it is somewhat discouraged since it is abrasive, but we may try that next....See MoreQuartz vs granite countertops in kitchen?
Comments (39)My kids are 6, 4, and 2 and we opted to have quartzite countertops installed. I know a lot of people with young children who have quartz or granite countertops and they all seem to be doing fine, but i also understand the other POV that it’s crazy to spend a lot of money on something that the kids are going to beat up anyway.... but I’m not willing to wait 15 years to have a kitchen that i love. As an aside, my grandmother has always had a beautiful house. She favors very fancy decor with a lot of antiques, but was never fussy with her home and it was very well used. With 14 grandchildren and now 4 greats, she has always felt that the reason to make a house beautiful is for the people you love to enjoy it.... and I agree!!!!!...See MoreThoughts or reviews on laminate countertops with a gloss finish
Comments (12)When I bought my house the kitchen had white laminate counters in a matte or semi-matte finish. They were a PITA. Stained easily and I had to put something like a towel or hot pad under cans when I opened them or they'd make grey marks on the laminate. Even things wrapped in foil caused grey marks on the counters. I was so happy to see those go. (Don't know the brand since they came with the house.) In a laundry might not matter so much, but I'm thinking about zippers rubbing on it while folding, or detergent spilling. Can you get samples and do scratch/stain tests? FWIW I have a butcher block counter in my downstairs laundry (I have a main floor laundry that is used more often, but downstairs gets used maybe 2/month.) I bought the butcher block at Menards (it's solid bb, not a veneer like IKEA's), stained it and put a few coats of polyurethane on it. Looks great and has not shown any wear, but as mentioned it doesn't get heavy use....See MoreLaminate matte vs high gloss
Comments (2)Wow, those are spectacular! Many years ago, I chose a dark green and black laminate (for these same cabinets), thinking the pattern and contrast would be nice, but I quickly grew to hate how dark it made the room feel, especially since there is not much natural light. I am not much of a decorator - cooking (and quilting) are more passions. My sister (who is a great decorator - even has a BIG blog and featured in mags) always recommended "bright white". I realize her style is different, but I hesitate to make the same mistake again. I will look and price the 180fx - I am assuming it is more than a simple white, but surely not the price of solid surface or granite. Thank you!...See MoreUser
