Help! Bathroom remodeling starting next week

Thought I had this under control but I think I'm making mistakes. Here are pics of counter and cabinets. Also pic of light fixtures to go over 2 rectangle frame less beveled mirrors (one each). I picked out chrome fixtures and hardware to match the light and now I think it's too gaudy, shiny for the counter and cabinets. Help me before I mess up this expensive project!!

Your countertop has a very 'earthy' look to it, and IMO, the lights are not going to fit in with that style. Do you have a photo of the vanity style?

I think brushed nickel would be nice for fixtures, and not too crazy or shiny. I am not sure what the picture is that you posted...is that supposed to be a light fixture? Looks weird.

Durock cement board next generation for Bathroom Remodeling

perlite filler PERLITE!! That's the stuff I was thinking of and couldn't remember the name of it. Because it has all the great features of traditional Durock, plus improved handling and installation, the next generation of Durock cement board will replace traditional Durock. What about shear strength? I ask only because of a project my sister (who's a commercial project manager in Ct) ran into. I posted a thread about it over in John's forum. Her firm was requested to install 2" thick stone over Denshield, and she came to me for my advice. I sent it up the line, and Dave Gobis came through for me, letting us know that the skin of the Denshield wouldn't hold the weight. Now, I'm also told that original forms of cement board, such as Durock and Wonderboard, WOULD hold it. The question is would this change that?

It all depends on what you are going to do with the bathroom. I typically do the following; 1. decide on the layout and design of the room, is it a simple replace in kind or are you relocating fixtures and moving walls? If you are making changes, you will want a floor plan with dimensions to start. 2. Are there budget constraints? If so, some options cost more than others (a slide in tub/shower costs less than a custom walk in shower, keeping fixtures in the same location costs less than relocating, etc.). 3. What is the style of the bathroom to be (ultra modern, traditional, Asian influenced, etc)? This will help narrow selections. 4. If these issues are addressed, then we look at finishes and fixtures. Typically, we prefer to select the tile first, since that usually has the greatest impact on the aesthetics of the bathroom. As indicated above, paint is usually last. We also like to get a sample of the intended tile and take it to showrooms to match up with the fixtures, vanity and counter. It is really helpful if you narrowed down ideas with Houzz pictures.

All safe after earthquake. I misread your drawing. You have lots of space. I would turn the vanity so that the sinks are opposite the entry. No windows were shown, so I am assuming this is a windowless bathroom -- can you add a solartube for natural light? I am not a fan of putting the toilet in a closet -- makes me feel claustrophobic. I am attaching a proposed plan. Enclosing the toilet will make the room feel less spacious. Consider an etched glass panel to "hide" the toilet space.

Personally, I like it all. Is that Cambria? New color? It's very pretty. Put everything on a mood board so you can see it all together. I have all chrome in the 2 baths we recently remodeled and I love the shine.

Thanks all. Yes, Karen, that's the light fixture. It's 16" x 6" but I couldn't seem to downsize it to attach. Do you just hate the fixture or the whole idea of chrome with this combination? The cabinet pulls, knobs, and faucet are fairly unobtrusive but still chrome.

Here's the cabinet style but painted not stained like this. 60" double vanity, doors on the sides with three drawers in the middle. Oval sinks in white with 2 frame less 24x36 rectangular mirrors over each. I couldn't find a picture that matched.

Ck, it's the Kelvingrove Cambria and I haven't seen it used very much although I think it's pretty too.

What do you think of this light fixture instead? Still chrome but more industrial style with smoked glass. More in line with the countertop and cabinets? I don't really like Edison bulbs for the bath but maybe with another bulb? Or am I still off base?
