Comments (11)When someone says "Angel Trumpet" to me, my first question is "are you talking about brugmansia or datura?". I even had someone recently ask me about my datura plants. I don't grow datura....They were asking about my brugs. My guess is (and I don't know this person and have never purchased from her), that she's simply using the common names to try and sell her seeds. The majority of people out there refer to both brugmansia and datura as "angel trumpets". I've never heard "moonflower", but apparntly it's another common name for datura. Rsieminski, I am almost positive that your intent of this post was not to flame this seller, but do you guys realize how many people make their entire incomes selling on Ebay? I know it's well over 500,000, and a post like this could very well hurt someone in more ways than you know......See MoreDo I have a Moon Flower???
Comments (12)Well.... Looks like the majority of them are a very pale lilac with a light purple throat but I could have sworn that the first one was white with a light purple throat... ( I'm letting a seed pod develop on that one! ) It sure is an interesting flower... They start to open around 5 PM then stay open till about 8 AM... Even the small, 5 or 6 inches high, plants are developing flower buds... When they're open they resemble swirly five pointed stars... Every last one of them stands straight up at the top of the plant... I half expected them to be much larger though... These are only about 2 inches across and about four inches long ( not counting the green )... But then again they may be smaller because they don't get full sun... As for the scent of the flowers... Well it's hard to say, my sniffer isn't working properly ( LOL )... Although I don't think anything can top the scent of an Aphrodite Hosta in full bloom... Rita...See MoreWhat moon flower is this?
Comments (4)Hi everyone, Thanks so much to everyone who replied. Yup, the plant is datura innoxia. When sammi first replied I was thinking, that's what we call regular old big datura here, but I see that it is also a common name for this plant. The photo on Jeanne's link looks like it but I still wanted to see the plant in flower. There is a great photo on hortiplex by TyChO which beautyfully shows the flower. I can almost smell it. The only thing is I think the photo is upside down as the flowers hang down from the stems. Then when kimbo said the seeds were tan, that sealed it. Know I know. Does anyone want to trade for another great smelling white flower, that would be sutiable for WI, other than datura or moon vine? I also reciently recieved a white sweet pea so don't need that. I've heard mignunet(I know this is spelled way wrong, but don't want to look it up right now) is very fragrent. Does anyone know if it comes in white? How about fragrent white 4-o'clocks? Thanks again y'all. Catrina...See Morerober49
