Building a grill island, outdoor kitchen
Comments (6)I had one built, but it's pretty small. It's got a raised bar and is in an L shape. It's possible to put 6 bar stools there, but I have 4 only. The other two are at a bar high teak accent table on the other side of the pool. The counters and bar are covered with granite. It looks lovely, BUT no one can sit there too often because granite is HOT in the summer, and FREEZING in the winter. I'd use something else. I do put place mats on there for guests, but if you accidentally put your hand on the granite.. shudder!! I have a sink with only cold water. The drop in grill is by Pacific Gas Specialties, Model K-40 Ultra. has a nice rotisserie with infra red heat and it works great! We have had no problems with it in 5 years!! If I did it over, I'd have some side burners. The refrigerator is certified by UL for outdoor use. That's important, and the Fridge is great! The entire thing was built in blocks and plastered and painted. On the bar side, I had 20" tile strips glued on for kick protection from those who sit there. This is a good feature. Looks great and is functional. If I did it over, I'd have the storage under the BBQ with removable shelves. Now and then you have to get under there. Shelves are nice, but we left ours dirt because we didn't think of removable shelves. We keep wood chips in there and stuff like that. Oh, and of course I have the mandatory umbrella. We live in the desert, and get some mighty winds now and then, so the poor umbrella is pretty thrashed. I still use the part that works. One side hangs there all broken, but I think it lends character! There are electric outlets in it, so we bring lamps out there at night. If I did it over, I'd have built in overhead lighting.... Like 3 corner poles connected by a funky hanging light thing. Too late to do that now. Sorry I don't have a picture to post, but you get the drift! Yours are probably already built, but I decided to bump this one up just in case....... Happy Grilling!...See MorePatio Outdoor Kitchen Fridge Help!
Comments (0)Hello. we are in the process of building an outdoor kitchen. There will be a corner fireplace and along the outer edge we will have an outdoor cooking area/kitchen. We have purchased a 36" built in grill but I am wondering if I need to purchase an "outdoor" refrigerator. The area will be under roof and built within a stone island, but I think we may need to spend the extra $$$ for the fridge rather than the dorm size mini fridge. Any help is much appreciated. thank you....See MoreOutdoor Kitchen
Comments (6)We are BGE people so we have a BGE that we smoke in built into the counter. People do build in Webers. Here is a link https://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?18214-Outdoor-Kitchen-with-build-in-for-Kettle. It even has links to pics where this was done. We opted not to have a fridge or a sink in our outdoor kitchens. We did not want the hassle of winterizing the sink and drainage was annoying. With respect to the fridge, it just did not seem like it would get enough use. Even if we entertain once a week during the nice season, we are paying to run it all the rest of the week and offseason. Plus you have to remember to cycle the beverages do beer, soda, and condiments at the back of the fridge do not get old since they are only for entertaining. We have not missed either of them even once....See Morein a outdoor grill island is a sink necessary
Comments (9)We have a modern house with an outdoor kitchen. One part of the L is counter space with pull-out trash and fridge under the counter space. Bar seating on the other side of this section. The other section of the L has a large grill and a sink beside it. It's a single bowl sink. I would highly recommend the sink and wished we would have also installed a garbage disposal and a spray arm faucet. Because it is outside, I use the sink to clean the surrounding area. An area for handwashing, as others have noted, is also a huge benefit. No, to the 2 tier counter. That is a dated look....See Moresuzyq53
