Help with designing/arranging/decorating living room
The attached images show the current state of my living room. Could you please drop in your ideas or suggestions on how I can make this space look better/cohesive, make it more functional etc?
In short, what would you do to make this space work?

4 years agoThe room is looking a bit bare....curtains floor to ceiling and roman woven wood blind in the window are a possibility or just beefing up the wood trim around the window as is to give it more presence.
A pair of end tables and lamps on either end of the sofa.
Another chair in an accent color, maybe a pattern, to the right of the fireplace.
Tree in the corner art work in the room.
Here is an inspiration room......lamps to balance the TV, round objects in room to soften the square areas, art work on the wall, end tables that match each other but not the cocktail table, lamps on either end of sofa.....if not using curtains at window then finishing the windows out with wide molding to add interest, a paint that contrasts with the furnishing a bit, chair in pattern on a diagonal to sofa adds interest, fills the room, helps to balance the furniture arrangement.....a room takes a lot of stuff and the sofa and chairs you have are a great start. You just need to plan the rest of the room, and shop and fill in where needed.

Comments (7)Thanks everyone... @Olychick, I was concern the TV would get nothing but glare from the windows with that configuration. The windows are on the west side and receive all the afternoon and evening light., which I like and use.. @decoenthusiate, I agree if I can manage to get a sectional and possibly updated chairs I may be able to use them as the focal point. Or the area rug first and built off it. Budget is around $1000 which is doable utilizing second hand market.... Once I work out the details; the style of pieces and color.... Comments (5)Will leather furniture replace the chairs or sofa? If not, you could do a leather ottoman as a way to work some leather in. If you get another rectangular coffee table i would turn it the other way and center it at the sofa. I would probably change up the art on the wall behind the chairs to one large piece or maybe four same size pieces set up in a grid. Maybe paint the light switch plate to match the wall cover, or at least change it to ivory or white. What does it look like to center the console/sideboard cabinet under the pass through? Comments (5)Where and how do you access the sofas? It looks like there is barely any room to walk around them to go sit down. And from where do you enter? Is that big round thing on the right supposed to be a hanging lamp from ceiling? If so, that space needs to be utilized. Or is it a round table?? Are those windows next to it? And the dark square shape in front of kitchen counter - is it a chair or... what? First, since your kitchen counter and wall to the patio are both angled, could you angle your loveseat and place it where the TV is now? Then, we'll just have to help you figure out where to put TV and big sofa, haha. You do have a bit too much furniture for this space, if the dimensions are scaled correctly. Can you sell the sofa and get a smaller one? These pieces look gigantic in that space. Photos of room would be helpful. 4 years agoI think it looks really nice! I like some of the other suggestions - remove the bolster pillows from the sofa, add curtains, move the tree - maybe to the empty corner on the fireplace wall. ditch the beige dining chair & split the blue chairs so they're across from each other. If you can get a round end-table matching the one you have, that would be great. The knickknacks scattered around - maybe get a nice a tray to hold everything and style it up with a plant, books, candles, etc.
