Do my exterior fixtures (scones + pendant) need to match?
Hi there. We are refreshing our exterior with new paint and fixtures. I've fallen in love with two Hinkley sconces that go on either side of our double garage, however the collection does not include any matching pendants. I am also replacing a large pendant that goes over the entrance. Is it a design rule or faux pas to match the sconces to the pendant exactly? The entrance is a bit hidden since it's under an archway, so I think I could get away with something that works and does't match exactly, but given the cost of the lighting, I'd rather do it right than simply make it work. Thoughts? Old pic of the house attached just to show you the location of the lighting - the new color is light blue with crisp white trim!

If we remove it (and we need to because I don't trust this situation), patch it, etc. does that mean that the entire kitchen and great room ceiling will have to be painted? Do you paint a textured ceiling or do they have to "texture" the entire two rooms again? This house is 20 years old and nothing has been maintained. I did like cat_ky idea of maybe putting a ceiling medallion. I wonder if they make square ones - I will look that up. She has to have an electrician come and check everything. The owner has weird electrical wiring ALL over this house especially the basement. None of the outlets in the basement work. Comments (21)@Mrs Pete, I'm curious... If I was to do an all white kitchen, wouldn't it still hold true that all the color is at the bottom (the flooring).? How would you balance it out in that case, or would it even need balancing? I decided to go with a two toned kitchen because my kitchen gets very little sunlight (many many mature trees in the neighborhood). With my dark flooring and 90's orange oak, I'm in a sea of wood. I picked white uppers to brighten the room and the stained bottom cabinets for their durability and easier maintenance. (My cabinets are already ordered so I'm not sure I could make that change this late but I'd still like to learn.)...See MoreSakina Groth
5 years agoThe ones I love are from the Sutcliffe collection. The other thing is, the fixture in the entryway should be larger than the sconces, right? Many of these pendants are fairly small. I am looking at some of these other Hinkley collections as backups (Porter, Adair, and Walker), but would love to make the Sutcliffe work if I can find a pendant that doesn't sacrifice the look!

If you select this collection it will be so much easier with light bulbs. Pendant is large enough

5 years agoNo one can see anything based on the size of the photo you posted.
Since the wall lights are by the garage and the lantern is at the front door, they will be very hard to compare.
These lights below are not all from the same collection but simply lights that visually complement one another.
