Can we use pendant lights at the vanity if they are Damp listed?
Comments (6)We're wrestling with a couple of different code references here. In general: 1) You need at least one light in the bathroom that is controlled by a switch located at the entrance to the bathroom. 2) Light fixtures within tub and shower spaces should be marked "suitable for damp/wet locations". 3)Hanging fixtures cannot be located within a zone of 3Â horizontally and 8Â vertically from the top of the bathtub rim or shower stall threshold. So just because a pendant fixture is "damp" rated and meets provision #2, it can't be installed within the tub/shower zone due to provision #3, which prohibits hanging fixtures. Provision #2 is so fixtures in damp/wet areas do not corrode and become electrical shock/fire hazards. Provision #3 is so that if someone is standing in the tub or in the shower and slips, they don't instinctively reach up and grab a low-hanging pendant fixture and pull it down into the water with them as they fall. Comments (6)I think the light looks fine at the height it is, but it's the tile frame that's throwing it off. I think I'd be inclined to find some art that would fill that frame or a wall sculpture to float in it and the light would look more like it was placed to feature the art. Even a contrasting tile (or maybe a few relief cast tiles) would add some interest inside the frame. If you lower the light to the center of the frame, it's going to look like you intended the light to be a framed art piece. At first I thought this was a mirror but I guess it's a pass through. You can't see the whole pendant, but based on the cabinets, it looks to be about the same height. I like how they have the contrasting back splash and even though you can't tile it like this, maybe you could do something contrasting with tile in that lower area to make the higher frame seem deliberate. Like tiling a piece and have it installed in front of the existing tile, kind of like this, still with something interesting in the framed area? Comments (4)There is no rule as to how many pendants you should have . I would suggest first finding the pendant that you like and then decide depending on the pendant chosen. Question is why do you think you need brass lamps ? What is the overall design of your home ?
