Electronic Air Cleaner/Fan Coil Filter Question

Hi Folks,

I have a Honeywell Electronic Air Cleaner installed below my Carrier Fan Coil unit. This is a heat pump system. The Honeywell unit has a wire/mesh filter located just above the "Electronic Cartridges" for lack of a better term. The system runs about 7 months a year on heat mode and very rarely on A/C mode during the summer. I'll clean the wire/mesh filter about every 3 or so months during the winter but only clean the "Electronic Cartridges" once a year, as they are recommended to be cleaned every six months. Today, I cleaned the filters, cartridges, and vacuumed the fan coil unit. I noticed a lot of dust on the vacuum brush when i cleaned the fan coils. Had to clear it several times. I also noticed that there is a slot on the fan coil unit for a filter about 6" above the Honeywell wire/mesh filters. It is empty.

Here is my question. Should i install an air filter into the Carrier fan coil unit in addition to the filter on the Honeywell unit? Or is this overkill?

Thanks in advance for your help.
