Dining room/Living room Disaster
Comments (11)It looks like it was originally intended to be a family room with seating and the fireplace. Are there any other rooms in proximity that you could use for a dining room? Is there room down by the door to put your table (ignoring the light for now) and have a seating area closer to the kitchen by the fireplace? Are you limited to a rectangular table or is round an option for you? "there is actully room for a desk too and I'm always unsure how to place the desk... Against the wall to the person at the desk is facing outside or facing the room?" It's personal preference, but I think having the desk using person facing out seems to work best (in my mind) in a room dedicated as an office. I think in a room shared for other purposes, it can look a bit like a reception area when the user faces into the room, so prefer the user facing away. Ideally, for me, it would be placed in front of one of those windows, just because I don't like looking at a wall if I can look out a window instead....See MoreKitchen/Dining Indecisive Disaster...
Comments (32)few quick points, and then I'll be back,,, remove the chair rail. why is it there? there is no need to chop your walls in half. none. If you want to do a white wainscot, great! do that. otherwise, take it off. wainscot or one, solid wall. Pick one. I actually like a bright white wainscot or a 2/3 high board and batten, and this SW Raisin shade for the top portion. too dark? Try BM Raindrops on Roses. Then bring in a nice dining room light w/some reflective qualities I also like the light white color for the kitchen walls. The kitchen is small, and you like your things, so having a lighter, non-fussy color would be best. Have you tried BM Lacey Pearl? Or Pale Oak, Or SW Passive? they are all nice neutrals that won't fight in the kitchen, that florescent light is horrible and can be removed without too much trouble. replace for a nice ceiling light as for the backsplash. you have one. that 4" piece. are you willing to remove it to do tile? if not, and you still want tile, then do soft glass subway. Heres is what tile on top of your 4" piece will look like or remove that 4" piece and it will resemble this look. Let me know what you like and I can come back w/more ideas....See MoreFamily Room Disaster
Comments (41)I think gduplessis, celerygirl, and groveraxel covered most of my points. I think I'd get rid of the love seat by the fireplace (so not blocking it), and move the one from the front wall forward until it's a conversational distance from the other couch. The the two make an L that includes TV and fireplace. You can add a small swivel chair by fireplace if space allows. Then I'd make the zone by the front door a different space, rather than the zone by the fireplace as partim did -- it could be a game table with two chairs, or a desk, or a bench with a boot tray... anything you have use for. The room is too long to be treated as one zone, which is why the love seats at either end are barely in shouting distance now....See Moreliving room wiring disaster
Comments (8)Do you own the home or are you renting? (your TV looks like it’s hung too high.) Is the wall behind the tv drywall? If so, cut a hole in the drywall (behind the TV) drop the wires through the hole. Fish wires out of another hole that you have cut behind the cabinet (close to an outlet). Here’s A link to directions....See Moregroveraxle
