Respectfully, I don't think the art necessarily adds any interest.

With all the rectangles and squares, I'd be inclined to add something oval or round. A round mirror, perhaps...What is on the opposite wall? In general, you'd want the mirror to reflect something interesting/pretty.

I like it! But I would add something in the space with a little more dimension like lighting.

The fireplace is very high (almost as tall a me), so it wouldn’t reflect much of anything.

And the opposite wall is the entry to the kitchen

its not a bad painting but it adds nothing in that location... a black hole over a black hole. perhaps add interest to your firebox/ hearth before you return it.

The art looks fine - nice size. However, I agree that it introduces many more hard, horizontal lines to the space. Style the mantel, finish the draperies and shades, and then re-examine. I wouldn't add a mirror there, although I think something round would be great.

In my opinion, the art loses its oomph when hung over the fireplace and thus does not have much visual interest in that location. To me the painting's artistic interest is in the graphic contrast. Because the fireplace repeats nearly identical in color and shape as the fireplace (white mantle, black fireplace), the painting isn't standing out.

I think the art does work in your room so maybe you can try it in another location. I'd suggest another art piece that doesn't mimic the fireplace so much for over the fireplace.

I am sure when accessories are added all will change but personally think some art with soft colors would look lovely in your room. Just said this on another dilemma. Haha. I must love soft colors! :). The white in the art does seem to be a bit stark to me compared to the soft white of the fireplace also.

I think once you have every thing in place. Try the picture again. You may not question yourself about whether it works in the room or not.

I don't mind it. what you're missing is everything else around it. right now you have an outside mount mini blinds, which do nothing for the space. you have no plants, no color, prints,

nothing.

you have lovely window trim. why are you covering it? your blinds should be inside mount like shown here

you could also bring in something like this.

But bring in some prints. some black and white to play off the painting. a rug, some arm chairs, the green fiddle leaf fig tree, a cool screen, etc.

I initially want to flip it on it's side so it's taller and doesn't look so much like the windows. It would help to put a vase with greenery on the mantel. I like it better with Beth's blinds.

While I think the art could be nice in the right setting, I agree with everything that's already been said about it above the fireplace. It's light and dark horizontal lines are getting lost against the light and dark horizontal lines of the architecture, and it ends up not really looking like anything at all. Not-art.

I think something black & white, or neutral could work here, but you need softer lines, I think.

Thanks so much everyone. You all basics echoed my thoughts when I first put it up. I love the art, but it’s too similar to my fireplace with the harsh lines. My kids just got home from school and thought I was playing a joke on everyone when they saw the painting!!!! LOL. but when I was in Homegoods and saw this for $250 I had to bring it home to try. I wanted it to work SO bad!!!! And maybe it could with the right accessories, but I think I’m delaying an inevitable return. Bummer!!!

Also, I wish I could do an inside mount on my blinds, but my windows are much too shallow

have you thought about trading the windows for french doors? (you can do one door on each side if it's too narrow)

LOVE French Doors, but we would fall down a story! This room is above my garage.

oh well, never mind! (unless you did balconies!)

Something like what kjoy1 posted would look remarkable in your space. Perhaps you can find a place for the other piece of art somewhere in your space since you like it so much. You can never have too much art!

I'm nowhere close to a professional, but I like it. I like the repetition from the fireplace to the picture. It's a minimalist look which not everyone will like. I don't enjoy seeing or being in rooms with a lot of visual clutter from pictures, furniture, rugs, and so on.

Art is a personal choice. I think you could do whatever you like.

could you do the current one over a couch like they've done here? (or another wall)

I agree with Isabel98. It would be interesting to see what it would look like vericical. For some reason think art that shape may look great over your fireplace.

I tried to find a vertical piece to put there, but they ended up looking to narrow and too tall. I like something taller in that spot to, but it has to be wide enough to fit above the mantel properly.

or, here is a similar piece you were looking at. what if you did something like this behind the art? Of course, the wood mantel and plants help out too.

the 2nd and 3rd bring in some great contrast w/colors. with the right window blinds and other elements, the fireplace would be a great focal point.

IMO the room could benefit from a vertically hung piece of art over the fireplace

And as an update- my husband HATED the art. He thought it was totally blah and basic. He thought I could have just painted it myself :( I‘m finding I have a terrible eye for this!!! I‘m wondering if the oversized round mirror would be easier to find and style? It‘s not easy to find huge art (reasonably priced!) This painting is 68” x 48”

get yourself a large canvas and paint something yourself! try doing the acrylic pour art.

Etsy has a lot of black and white art if you like the one from Beverly. I search large art, and many of the artist will do multiple sizes. My original art was about 40x60" and $400 plus the cost of framing material to mount it myself. My bedroom art was only $220!
