I vote for the art! I feel like mirrors hung that high aren’t super useful and art tends to be a better personal decor statement than a mirror, in my opinion. Of course, if you found a super cool mirror that functioned like piece of art, that could be different.

A mirror enlarges a room...and also reflects light. I like a mirror over a fireplace. I have a mirror over my fireplace. But you have to consider what it will reflect and angle it properly so people sitting opposite it are not looking at themselves.
I would really like to see the shutters adn the walls the same color, so they don't stand out like white squares in the middle of the wall. And what is that square gray thing next to the shutters on the left.

IMO mirrors need to reflect something worth seeing twice and up that high all that will be reflected is the ceiling . A nice piece of art IMO wins almost every time over a mirror above a FP I do ageree the shutters and the walls the same color and all the walls the same color. BTW too bad you did shutteres that roome needs drapes and why do you have a chair facing out of the room?

the TV is on the right side wall which is why chair is facing that way. I lost that fight with my husband.

I wasn’t sure about shutters replacing drapes. I’m still not sure about it but my husband really wanted them because we did them in the dining room and living room and he really liked them and wanted some consistency.

I like the shutters more in the day than at night.

Art over the fireplace; no mirror. If you look at your photo,the mirror reflects ceiling and walls.

Buy art that you love. No need to do color matching...with furniture or walls. Consider adding floor lamps or tables and table lamps to soften the light from the ceiling lights. Additional sources of light will enhance the look of you room.

Mirrors seldom work over fireplaces as they don't usually provide a image worth seeing. I vote for artwork instead. I would limit mirrors to places where they are needed for dressing, makeup application and checking yourself out before leaving. Good luck!

Plantation shutters are substantial on their own, so it's a personal preference as to whether or not you want another treatment with them. If so, it doesn't look like there's room to stack panels next to the fireplace. Something like this could work.

I agree with art vs a mirror. Your shutters are lovely and don't need an additional window treatment. I think a lighter wall color would work better with them...as in all four photos you posted with the drapes.

Here are some of the ideas you expressed with your room painted. You may also need to change the fireplace facing as it may not look good with the wall colors. You can add color as well with some interesting marble or granite choices. You will also want to cover up that prefab fireplace with a nice custom fireplace screen to hide it.

Wow. Thank you @Hansen Wholesale! no money in budget to change facing unfortunately. So I’ll have to find a painting that will hopefully incorporate the color. And agree I need a new screen. Tackling that next.
