The siding is painted cedar. Hard to see in the photos there are actually 2 posts one behind the other but we could beef up both of them. Would you just box them in?

The interior of this house looks primo; the exterior needs a bit of help. Fortunately, it shouldn't be hard to do. A new door and garage door would be first on my list (after removing the shutters).

Then it's a good thing I had them on a separate layer.

The railing on your deck appears to be painted white so there's no reason why you couldn't wrap your front stoop posts in white painted treated boards rather than more expensive cedar boards, especially if that left a bit more in your budget for the garage door and/or landscaping.

groveraxle Your gave me a lot to think about... I really like the first one with the dark trim but the big window on the first floor is a brand new Pella triple pane window that still has the factory white (has never been painted) so I think I would be chicken to paint it! Maybe if I just start painting I'll work up to it!

I never thought about taking down that little brick wall on the stoop but it really opens up the front of the house! Thanks for all the great input!

Angela, if that's a new window, you might void the warranty if you paint it. Check that out before you do.

I really like the door, groveraxle added. It is definitely mid century modern door and would look fantastic on your house, along with a lot of landscaping. Very pretty interior.

Angela, one more comment here because the devil is often in the details. Please note that I extended your front stoop to the end of the porch overhang, and used a simple metal post for a support. The walkway to the drive is the same concrete, and the planter bed under the window uses matching concrete pavers and large gray stone (like Mexican beach pebbles) for mulch. Keeping all those materials consistent helps to unify the front.

The porch area looked very confined before Grover's last rendering. I'd start there.
