bermuda control

I've been really busy tending hives & extracting honey & have neglected some beds. I just noticed that Bermuda grass has invaded a bed of Russian sage. I tried pulling some of it but it is really entrenched. the height of the sage is complicating things. if I gut back the sage to gain access to the ground will it hurt the sage or should I wait until the sage goes dormant?
