peeling paint on ceiling
Comments (3)One thing you might try is to paint a small section with with Peel Stop. It binds all together like glue. Then after it dries, with a 5-in-1 scraper, get the sharp corner under the paint and lift it up so you can peel it off. Try a test area first, of course. But I found paint to come off easier after I'd put on Peel Stop than before, because it would peel like an orange in larger pieces than when I had been scraping. It also was dust free! Darn cause I was done with that messy phase. I've seen this effect happen at my house with both the Peel Stop (triple thick version) top coat that I had to scrape some more off after an area bubbled; and with Gardz (a thin product) in a room that had not been scraped and prepped properly first by hired help....See MoreOil based paint over Latex? No need for Primer?
Comments (1)You probably do not need a primer. I'm not even sure that I would use an oil based coating. A high quality acrylic floor coating would probably be fine. Dutch Boy is certainly not considered high quality, but the issue could have been curing. If you pull tape and do not score the line where you want the tape to break away, you can pull the paint off. The paint will stick better and bond better and become more durable as it cures (up to a month). Paints in bathrooms can take longer to cure because you are showering in there and putting moisture in the air which can sometimes re-wet the paint film. Use the fan, take shorter showers, shower with the door open, etc..whatever you can do to help that paint cure. There are no-skid, non-slip additives you can add to the paint if you are worried the surface will be too slick....See MoreFlaking Paint - Zinsser Primers - Gardz vs. Peel Stop
Comments (19)Well, I talked with tech support and he says Gardz isn't really designed for flaking, peeling paint, although it will do something. The can kind of reads that it is but the wording of Peel Stop is very specific for peeling and flaking paint. He says it's like glue in a can and will work better than Gardz. Neither product can penetrate all the way through, however, and lock it all down to the drywall for a fail-safe finish. It just glues down edges and areas that have tiny breaks in the finish going on. Gardz states it is moisture resistant and they did say it would work well for the area over the tub for splashing, steam, etc. Whereas, Peel Stop breathes and is not moisture resistant. FYI. A lot of people recommend Gardz for the paint peeling problem. Peel Stop is what's designed for that....See Moreprimer and paint not sticking to old window sash
Comments (1)The peeling areas must be feather sanded and the exposed wood must be sanded to fresh wood. If you paint across the bridge created by the peeled paint, the new paint is ultra thin at that bridge, causing it to break and peel away. Michael...See Moremiss lindsey (She/Her)
