Pull width for shaker drawers

I have read that using the Golden Ratio or a rule of thumb of about a third works, but my question is:

- do you apply that rule to the total drawer width or the "flat" part that is between the stiles?

I'm doing this project from afar, so I'm not there to mock it up.

Thanks for any advice.

Why don't you wait?

This is something that can be easily done after everything else is finished and you are on site, but is not easy to change once they have drilled holes in your new drawers.

There might be rules, but in many cases they can and should be broken!

On the other hand, I would not want the responsibility of drilling holes in my new bathroom fixtures for drawer pulls, no matter how easy, since my astigmatism and progressive lenses make doing anything like that at below-waist level iffy. So that means taking each drawer out and to a work area. Forget it, not while I am moving in, and not in my new cabs when it is a chore I have never done. Nope, I would not do it myself.

Especially not when I am moving in.

Can you go up to the search function, put in "shaker bathroom vanity" and choose "in photos" as your option. Just ignore all the stuff that is NOT what you are looking for, and check out the drawer pulls in the photos of the shaker cabs until you get a feel for what you like best. Sometimes, if it is a bathroom that you really want to see better, if you click on the photo there may be more shots from other angles in the article the photo you are looking at came from. There are over 263,000 photos of Shaker style bathrooms in Houzz!

I will second what pussuskattus suggested...although it is definitely more work/time, we found that it was very worthwhile to mock up the drawers and try out our handles that way. We ordered various sample sizes of our handles and DH cut some scrap wood planks in the lengths of our drawers. We then just placed the handles on each board and it was VERY quick and easy to determine which size to go with. It was surprising what we found...definitely some different outcomes than what we had thought before mocking up. There would be no need to cut wood, though...could easily just use posterboard or scrap cardboard from a shipping box. And the ribbon idea would be easy, too. Would save the step of buying the pulls if you don't know for sure yet what you want. Good idea for next time! Good luck with your search on the vintage pulls!

One Drawer Pull Or Two Drawer Pulls?

Did any of you do one pull and wish you had two? I have one pull on all drawers, no matter what the width. I have 27s, 30s and 33s. Not even for one second did I regret going with one only. I'm into convenience, form following function, etc. I don't know if a drawer would get messed up if you only pull one when you have two installed, since you're always pulling from the one side, but I don't want to find out the hard way. Anyway, I like the look of one pull only. So for those trying to decide, I'd say to ask yourself the following questions: -- Do I like the look of two better than one? -- Do I like that look enough to make it worth having to use two hands to open the drawer every time? Only you can answer for yourself, there's no right or wrong answer except as it applies to your own situation. I will say that having had kitchens where two hands were required for things that could have been accomplished with one, there's just no contest.

Drawers have a design (such as shaker) but drawers are "slab" ?

I also have slab top drawers on my shaker style cabinets. We considered all slab but we were in the same boat as you...all lower drawers for the most part and didn't want it to look disjointed with slab on the bottom, shaker stiles/rails on the top. We're all done now but here's a pic from "during" showing the top slab drawers on my pots/pans drawers and my garbage pull-out.

How to install cabinet pulls in center of shaker drawer?

I don't have a clue about how to best install the pulls, but wanted to mention it's a good idea to mock it up first. Pulls centred on drawers tend to look like they are "off" (too low) because you are looking down on them. Try placing them in the top third of the centre panel rather than right in the middle of the panel.

I have drawers ranging from 15”-36” wide in my kitchen. I was going crazy trying to figure out the perfect size pulls. I finally wised up and bought 8” pulls for all the 30”-36” wide drawers and 5” pulls for the rest. Looks fine.
