Bedroom Closets: What Ideas Do ~ YOU ~ Like and Why????
Comments (44)Yikes, Jamie, that must have been the original model way back when! It sure does look shabby and old! Mine doesn't have the added feature of the ironing board, which I'm sure, turned out to be something no one used. Being oak, like mine, though, I'm sure it's one VERY heavy dust-catcher ;^D Terriks, I'm glad that you added that pic here, too. I love your idea and I LOVE that it was a DIY project. I'm really hoping to find ideas that DH & I (and anybody else here) can do ourselves. Bumblebeez, what kind of containers do you keep your shoes and purses in? Yesiyesi: sorry, but I'm afraid to click on your link. I have a strong feeling that it's SPAM (which is not allowed here) and that's where a person can pick up all sorts of nasty trojans, etc. Torsade: I'm excited for you, too. Please keep us posted on your closet changes and I'm anxious to see the final outcome. It sounds like a great idea. You might even consider adding a shelf above your new seating area to take advantage of any extra space. Oofasis: I, for one, am not laughing . . . that's a good question. But again, only speaking for myself, I'm so desperate for a good, reasonably priced solution for my many shoes that I'd happily deal with any dust them . . . but that's just me ;^D KSWL: all great ideas, thank you!!! I agree that someplace to sit is so handy. We keep our convertible chair/step stool in the chair position for that reason (and because it's too heavy for anything else!). I've been wondering about those telescoping rods you mentioned and am glad to hear that they are a good investment. I'm now going to try and incorporate a couple into our closet reno. Sasha'sM: You know, ever since I posted that one pic from the ClosetFactory's website, I've been trying to locate that kind of super-susan made for clothes. So far, this is one of the only places that seem to carry something similar: "Ovis Cabinet Organizers" I don't know if one would work in our closet, but it seems to be a good, practical idea for some people. You definitely can get one if Closet Factory does your closet, though. Bharensi: Your closet sounds wonderful! I know that I speak for many of us when I say that we'd LOVE to see pics of it if you ever want to share them with us. Good idea about using a dehumidifier. Here in New Mexico, we don't have a humidity problem, but for areas where it's a problem, that's a good, practical idea! I also like that yours is a DIY project. Using the GW dresser and all of your other ideas are good, reasonably-priced solutions that we all can use. TFS! Lynn...See MoreEntry Hall Chest, (** 4 PICS **) which one do you like better?
Comments (58)parma42, thanks for the Blonde chuckle! Those furniture sites are addicting too.. I spend so much time there! I like the one you posted a link to as well, but now (I am such a nut) think I found another... and after really studying the space and playing with photoshop, I decided the bombe chest #3 is too bulky for the area, so I am ruling that out. My list is shrinking and once again think Les is correct on her thoughts. So, I found this one that is a console - but is a chest too. The size is right, color seems to compliment floors and other furniture.. not sure if the 'style' really flows with the other wood pieces (bTW - I don't like the dining room furniture. It is new - but darker and plainer then I would have picked for this home). Here is my newest find, which is similar to kmcg85 posted. I like the bottom shelf, and that it is also open, but yet has storage. It's simple, yet my dining toom furniture is very plain and simple....See MoreWhat to do when what you like breaks design rules?
Comments (31)In our previous house, we put up a tile backsplash just like the ones used at the Belgian-inspired kitchen in Portland. I scored tons of different colors when HD was closing out their colorful square tiles at, IIRC, about 50 cents a tile. I like lots of color, too. It makes me happy. :) Anyway, I wish I had a photo handy but we had a laminate counter with a bit of a faux stone look to it. However, much less movement and all the color tones were much paler than your Venetian Ice. Our cabinets were Hickory which is a busier wood with a lot of grain and visual interest. I thought it looked great. But I'm unsure if you could pull it off with that particular stone. I agree with getting out your paints, markers, crayons, whatever, and coloring on paper what you think you'd like and then hanging it in the backsplash area to see how it looks. Don't just do a small bit. Make colored copies and really cover that area to give you a good feel for how it might look. It might look great or you might decide you need to bring color into the room with the art and accessories. I dunno. I think people should do what makes them happy. I also hate to see people spend time, effort and money on something that doesn't work for them. I think a test run is a good way to make sure you are going to be happy with your choice....See MoreWhich of our kitchen designs do you like better?
Comments (7)I understand your desire for an island--I love my work table/island. I have aisles about the same width, but the traffic aisle is not against a solid wall--there are cabinets there, which provide a little more shoulder space for someone walking through. And, my island is only 5' long. If your island is only 26" in depth (including overhangs), you could add a couple inches to each aisle. I think the island, as drawn, is too long--it would be better to have a shorter island, and add seating in the window area. Three people won't be able to sit comfortably on the end of the island as drawn, anyway. If the window can be moved, the range would fit on the back wall. You'd have the minimum prep area, but room to spread out on the island. If it's not feasible to move the window, then the same layout will work, but put the sink to the right, with the prep area in front of the window. If you give up the pantry on the right, you might consider creative storage ideas, such as a 'morgue drawer' in a banquette, and/or between the studs storage on the garage wall (if it's framed, and if safety codes allow).
