I have been moving daylilies around too. I moved all daylilies out of one bed that got a lot of nasty weeds, including bermuda grass, sprayed, and soon will replant. A few daylilies to divide, but most have been moved. Then will start on a couple of host a, monster ones. Only have 1 day lily in bloom now, Midsummer a Woman's Work. But Linda Beck has another rebloom scape that should start blooming soon. I got Linda Beck last fall, 3 of the fans bloomed in the summer, then the other 2 bloomed later, and the 1st 3 fans have taken turns reblooming, so it has been in almost continuous bloom since June.

We are catching the remnants of Gordon here. We are in the area of potential heavy rainfall for at least today and tomorrow. We were hoping to get the rest of the seedlings planted this weekend, but no such luck.

Then we won't be able to rest. We have to move the selected seedlings into the observation bed and line out the sales bed. We will be busy through early October.

We were also hoping to line out some named varieties that we plan to get rid of. We are hoping to eliminate about 100 varieties this year. We can't sell any this year because we have rust in the garden, but it will be gone by spring.

Well, one would hope that a Northern winter would eliminate rust. I believe that rust is entering gardens, not only through Southern spring purchases, but also through plants that are grown in Northern greenhouses. We know those who sell from greenhouses in the spring. Last year, I had some rust, though it almost certainly was from a Southern purchase. It is a royal pain! This year I segregated any Southern spring purchases. (If you wish, you might list some of the cultivars that will be available for purchase.)

I do hope you are able to get rid of the rust. There is so much we don't know about it. So far I count myself lucky that it hasn't shown here.

We were at 51 degrees this morning and rain is still predicted so hopefully we get some of it.

Sherry: Do you think the one you got crown rot was from inadequate drainage or came in with being susceptible to it? Which plant had it? Just curious.

No garden work today. A day of rest :)

Having a southern garden I am very conscious of the possibility of rust. Until recently the only rust I ever had was from Maryott in California. I had potted those plants away from the garden and was able to quickly take care of it. I recently was visiting my neighbor and was doing a walkabout with her in her yard when I spotted rust in some of her daylilies. I pointed it out to her and she just shrugged and stated they were through blooming and she was through working in her yard during the heat. Now I am paranoid every time I see a breeze!!

I spent a couple hours today, but the temps are still so high, and no promis of much relief until the end of the month...I did eliminate a lot of plants this year, but added just as many. Even so, I am under 300 now so that is good. I have some weeding and a lot of mulching to do year . some more exchanges outs for ins. Going to gym 3 or 4 days a week is cutting into my time somewhat, but I will get it done if it ever cools off. I have had rust, but none this year. I have honor guard and Heritage which supposedly eliminate it, but if winter is cold enough it usually does it.

I am winding things up here, gathering pods and just doing a little general cleanup. The weather turned chilly for us, presage of the coming deep freeze. Would be nice if it held off just a wee bit longer. Supposedly it will warm up again starting tomorrow, but who knows how long that will last? I keep hearing the rumor that this will be a colder than usual winter here up north. 'Say it ain't so!'
