Is it okay to turn off cold water to washing machine?
Comments (11)Thanks everyone! Gates1--what is a kill-a-meter? I will be very interested to find out how hot yours is getting. badgergrrl--Does the booster just affect water to the washing machine or to the whole house? I am worried my 3 year old will scald himself if it is too hot everywhere. cyberspacer--you *can* do it, because I went ahead and did it and it works in that it does keep the cold water from entering, but I am just wondering if it is safe to do or if it could ruin the machine? As a side note...I have had this thing for less than 48 hours and there is condensation under the LED on/off button and the rest of the display. Any experience with this? Maybe I just have a lemon...? Thanks everyone!...See MoreWashing Machine Backing Up
Comments (4)If there is light grit or sand in the trap it's possible the snake went right past it without catching hold of it. I've heard of people vacuuming it out or using a bladder to push it on. There really out to be a code req. that the trap of a washing machine be accessible as a sink trap is. Commercial laundries have these things - which are ridiculously expensive for what they are - to avoid the problem. Comments (5)Mona,, Here's a tip that will save you some time & money. The Fluidmaster Valve uses a rubber diaphram that is held closed by the water supply pressure. When you fill your washing machine there is s slight drop in the water supply pressure and if the diaphram is weak it would allow some water to leak by causing the problem you describe. Rather than changing the whole fluidmaster valve you can get a replacement diaphram at any hardware store for about $.98. To change the diaphram turn the toilet water supply valve off, open the tank and snap the top cover off the Fluidmaster valve. You then turn the top of the valve about 1/4 turn and it lifts off exposing the diaphram. Lift the old diaphram off, slip the new one on and replace the parts you removed. (Fluid master has excellant illustrated instructions however if you go to a smaller hardware such as a neighborhood ACE hardware and ask one of the floor people, they will be glad to demonstrate how its done. The whole task will take less than 5 minutes, no tools and about $1 in parts....See MoreSingle lever washing machine shut off with water hammer arrester
Comments (2)Single lever shut off??? You might be refering to "ball valve" but elaborate so we can be certain everyone is talking about the same thing. "is it common for plumbers to just quote the price and not specify what products they are using? " Very common and about as good of way as any,,,,,,,,UNLESS buyer either A. Understands plumbing and is capiable of judging material. Majority don't/can't. B. Has their knowledgable repersentive create a scope of work calling out details of material and methods. The scope is created and supplied to all bidders insuring that each is useing same parts, material and equal performance. C. Places their interest and athority 100% in the hands of a third party. 1 year warranty on material without spicific mfgr's warranty as well as labor is fair and reasonable. Most mfgr's warranties DO NOT cover labor. Think long and study hard before useing the net as substitude for A,B or C. Better to just choose a plumber based on repitation and referances then following his reccomendations....See MoreHans Hinners
